I CAN'T CARRY HIS BABY

"Are you sure you want to go ahead with this marriage notwithstanding?" I queried him, I would have given a million dollars to ascertain the genuity of his heart. If you know what I just disclosed to him you wouldn't blame me for doubting him. It's only a man who is madly in love that will agree to such a term.

By now I am sure you're curious to know about my condition. Well I want you to pay attention.

I am a nurse, so you know my primary assignment is to save live. On that fateful day, casualties were brought in from a very fatal accident so all hands were on deck. It was such a gory sight. We battled all night to save lives, in the process many body parts were cut off, sadly a lot were dead on arrival or shortly after. It was such a busy night, we could not afford to take a break. I will like to digress a little here and ask that my readers should please respect health workers for their efforts. We sometimes bend back and forth to deliver high standard care.

Up until now I can't explain how it happened. Everything suddenly went dark around me and my legs colapsed like jelly. It was so quick, I fell heavily on the wheelchair that was with me and fainted. I came around after colleagues have attended to me. I went straight back to work as soon as I could stand on my feet. Few weeks after I started experiencing sharp back pain, x-ray later revealed damage to my spine. It was so bad that I couldn't walk and had to use wheelchair. I was on hospital admission for months and I was told on discharge that my spine is not strong enough to carry pregnancy.

Just like that! Well that's my story. So, tell me why I won't think twice when an African man promised me marriage despite the fact that doctors said I should not attempt having a child. You know what they are like don't you?

• How can I be sure he won't abandon me for another woman when his family mount pressure on him?
• Should I have kept it as a secret until we are married?
• Am I consider a woman if I'm not able to bear my own child?
• Is it biblical to arrange for a surrogate mother to help me carry the pregnancy?
• Should I defy doctor's advice and get pregnant?
