This digest is the 34th episode of the #stemng digest series where we bring to you some of the best posts under the #stemng tag in the past week.

For those that do not know yet, stemng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community-driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable.

As we usually do, we have sifted through the stemng tag and even though there were several good posts to choose from, below are the posts that stood out for week #34.


Saturday: Getting to the Summit of Mount Everest. Part 3 – Let’s get Climbing!


@writeit continues his exploration of the highest mountain in the world- the Mount Everest. The journey is not for the faint of heart, but for all the real adventurers out there it is just another thing to check in their bucket list.


Sunday: Metrology: The Science of Measurement and how it has shaped the course of History #1


The @emperorhassy writes on measurement, a vital part of the everyday life. Imagine if there is no way to calculate time, or get the precision in bolts and screws which makes a 13-mm bolt made in China to fit a 13-mm screw that was manufactured in the USA. Monday: Giving up Smoking


The title of this next article by @masterwriter is self-explanatory. The topic discusses the different method a smoker may quit and the corresponding effect that may happen.


Tuesday: The biochemistry of ageing


Most of us will like to be young forever, but that is not going to happen. @donefezy takes a critical look at some of the facts behind why we get old.

Wednesday : Should We Forget About Artificial Intelligence (AI) And Focus On Intelligence Augmentation (IA)?


Most opponents of AI are fearful that a day will come when artificial intelligence (AI) may go rogue and take over the universe. Some are apprehensive at what the future will look like when AI is given a free reign to pilot over the affairs of humankind. @samminator addresses some of these fears by looking at the prospect of Intelligence Augmentation (IA) instead of the current focus at AI.



Thursday: Why It Seems The Human Bone Does Not Decay


The human bones have been known to survive thousands of years and remain intact with minor deterioration. The @oluwolelide's post looks at some of the factors that keep it preserved over the years.


Friday : Optics #1 _ Understanding The Emission Of Visible Light In Relation With Excitation of Electrons


The @ikchris takes us on a journey to better understand the principle behind the light, and the voyage includes some of the fundamentals of photoelectric effect; a process an exited material gives off light particles (photons).
