in #stemng7 years ago

Welcome to the 21st episode of the stemng digest series where we bring to you some of the best posts under the #stemng tag in the past week.

STEMng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community-driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable.

More information about stemng activities are found here, while details of what it means to be part of steemSTEM can be found here, as well.

As we usually do, we have sifted through the stemng tag and even though there were several good posts to choose from, below are the posts that stood out for week #14.

Saturday: Holes in his bones: Radioactivity, Energy Drinks And Caffeine

Starting off this week's selection for Saturday is this post from @joeycrack about energy drinks, radioactivities, and caffeine. A well-written post linking the three phenomena to energy boosting in the system of man. Man has always pursued means through which he can get extra energy apart from the normal metabolic processes of the body that generate energy. What did history say about this quest and what way do these drinks operate in the body? Feel free to have a read of the article.

Sunday: Data Communication: A Closer look into Computer Networking

There is no doubt that technological advancement has enabled information to be shared more easily, be it locally or at a much larger scale. In organizations, cyber cafes etc., computer networking has helped managers and co-workers to communicate more easily without having to be face to face. How do you all think these networkings are done? This article by @olajidekehinde provides answers to some of the questions that could be bothering our minds on the topic.

Monday: Weightlessness: Why you feel a weight loss when you are descending in an Elevator

If you have ever been in an elevator that is descending, you will understand what this post is all about. The feeling of lightness that accompanies descending in an elevator was scientifically explained by the author. Kudos to @oluwabori for this lovely piece.

Tuesday: It's actually possible to tap loads of energy from the sun at night.

Life simply cannot exist without energy and much of the energy requirements come from the sun. But we all know that sun only shine during day. Do you know that there is a technology that can enable sun energy to be tapped during the night? Well, you are as ignorant as I am (or maybe not) until I read this post. A really good post from a debutant author @writeit

Wednesday: Wastes to Wealth

Imagine being able to generate wealth from the various wastes that are constituting nuisance in our environment? Perhaps the problem of ozone layer depletion and global climate change would not have arisen to start with. This post by @conas enunciated the various ways by which some of the environmental wastes could be utilized in generating income. A practical one

Thursday : Let's talk about the intercoolers [getting rid of that heat at high pressure]

We are really blessed with some automobile engineers in stemng/steemstem such that one might not need to take his car to technician again in case of trouble, just consult with them. Posts like this one from @adetola throw light on the general working principle of vehicles. A good read.

Friday: Vision: Who Said We See With Our Eyes?

Capping this week selection is this article by @purelyscience. It basically talks about the working principle of the eyes and the various processes that leads to the formation of image within the eye. A really decent post from a debutant author.

About the selection process

The post for each day was selected based on consensus between the stemng management, in persons of @greenrun and @gentleshaid. @greenrun made the week's selections, while @gentleshaid presented it.
