Stemng digest: week #11

Good day everyone and welcome to a new edition of stemng weekly digest. Let me tender my unreserved apology for the delay in releasing this week's episode, real life engagements sometimes overwhelm.

Recently, a lot of folks have been asking series of questions concerning steemstem/stemng blacklist. For the avoidance of doubts, steemstem/stemng usually blacklists those found to have plagiarised stem-related posts under the steemstem/stemng tags. If you have not been getting upvotes from us or you have been getting before but not anymore, you might want to talk to one of the mentors in our discord channel for clarifications.

A quick reminder that stemng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community-driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable.

As we usually do, we have rummaged through the stemng tag and even though there were several good posts to choose from, below are the posts that stood out for week #11.

Sunday: why some men do not grow beards

The first thing I did seen this post was to touch my beards. Social media have made some of us to be super-sensitive about our looks. Girls seem to want the same thing, according to social media; money, make-ups and a tds guys with connecting beards. But then, why do some guys have beards and some do not have? If you are curious about the science behind beards, then @bifairy's post answers several of the questions that could be forming in your mind.

monday: 21 TECHNOLOGICAL INVENTIONS AND DISCOVERIES THAT REVOLUTIONIZED THE WORLD

Texhnological inventions without doubts have contributed a great deal to our lives. We all know that without technology, I won't be here to write this post and you all won't be here to read it. Such is the distance technology has travelled in our world. If you have never sat down to imagine the greatest technological inventions in our world, a good read of @prettyprecy's post about top 21 technological inventions will educate you beyond doubts. From television, x-ray, electricity to internet. Amazing post.

Tuesday: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN OUR BRAIN BEGINS TO LOSE IT'S MEMORY

I am sure we all have at some points in our lives experienced memory loss. Perhaps in trying to remember a specific word during an examination or something/someone relevant to our situations. Memory loss is usually accompanied by a series of events in our brains. A good read from @sigmund. Awesome post.

Wednesday: Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports: The Human Growth Hormone, WADA, and Permissiveness.

The first name that came to my mind when I saw the title of this post was Diego Amando Maradona. I am sure a lot of football lovers will know why. And yea, I have always considered Lionel Messi to be a football cheat. Little surprise when I heard he's a product of human growth hormone. Something about him has always been fishy by the way 😎. Kudos to @ vannessahampton for the great work she did concerning this post. A recommended good read for those that would be interested .

Thursday: PROPERTIES OF BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS : Difference between an Agricultural Engineer and a Mechanical engineer in machine design.

I initially found part of the topic to this post a bit befuddling, I was almost going to ask the author if it was suppose to be "biological properties of materials" instead of properties of biological materials. But what is in a name anyway, the content of the post actually spoke volumes. To be honest, has anyone who is not an agricultural/mechanical engineer ever taught there is special consideration for seeds/related materials before machineries are manufactured? The egg/battery cage example actually got me. A good post if you are looking for one. Thanks to @sogless.

Friday: CALCIUM: Meet the biochemical and bioelectrical workaholic.

The human body is full of micro and macro nutrient elements which serve different important purposes in our body systems. @joelagbo made a good work of taking us through the biochemical and bioelectrical functions of the nutrient known as calcium in the human body. How does the element does this? You all should have a read and get educated.

Saturday: Corrosion: What are the costs? How do we minimize them?

I recently had a terrible experience with corrosion. A friend bought a foreign used car and had to spend close to $700 fixing some rusty parts. Perhaps something should have been done to prevent such wastage of resources. What exactly happens during corrosion of materials and how can it be minimised? Of what magnitude is the cost implication of this chemical process? @temitayo-pelumi took us through it all. A good read for all.
