SCIENCE : The Science behind the Feeling of Love
Introduction
It is believed that love is a strong feeling of affection for something or someone. As a living being there is a desire to love and be loved but many don't understand what's really happening to their bodies when they are in love. Over the years all humans happen to fall in love without knowledge on whats happening within the body. Love for family, friends, pets, games, food e.t.c but yet the scientific fact about this mysterious feeling called "love" was never known by most people over century. Some say its just nature while other says its spiritual.
In this post, I will be explaining the chemical reactions that takes place when we fall in love.So sit back, relax or find somewhere comfortable as i explain this complexity.
The Chemistry Of Love
The brain places an important role when we fall in love. The brain secret some hormones that makes us have this feeling whenever we see an image of that thing we love.
In the case of when we find ourself in love with an opposite sex, researchers have found out that "it's not what you say that" makes the person to like you.
Their are 3 basic stage of being in love
Scientifically "Lust" is caused by the testosterone and oestrogen levels that is produced by both the male and the female. This hormones are responsible for our sexual urge.
- Attraction : This is second stage of falling in love. It's actually the point when you are love-strucked. Three things are involved adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin.
(i) "adrenaline"
When you fall in love the adrenaline rush through the body causing your blood pressure to increase, sweats, and mouth goes dry whenever you bump into your new love
(ii) "dopamine"
High level of dopamine is produced during the moment of attraction.
It triggers an intense rush of pleasure and desire when you see the new love. This "dopamine" effect is the same when an individual as obsession for cocaine.
- Attachment
Attachment is a very strong feeling that keeps couples together for a very long time enough to even have children.
The two hormones responsible for this feelings are; oxytocin and vasopressin.
(i)"Oxytocin"
They also call the "cuddle hormone".This is a strong hormone that is released from the body during orgasms. It occurs in both men and women.
In this case they draw closer and deeper into each other the more sex they have.
(ii)"Vasopresin"
They are antidiuretichormone secreted by the pituitary gland. They affect the blood pressure by stimulating capillary muscles and reabsorption of water by kidney
source.
This hormones are also secreted
The role of vasopresin was
known when scientists observed the "prairie vole".
This what draws the strong attachment in a long-term relationship and when it is reduced the couples don't feel the bond between each other.
ln conclusion
These are the cause of the reaction you feel everytime you bump into someone you love. Its not a spell like they claim it to be lol. The hormones our brain secret are the ones playing the mind tricks making our body reacts the way it does.
This is a human thing and everybody needs it. It's the best feeling, but it's stupid at the same time. When we are in love we can not think of most things properly :)
