Experiencia de la etapa de oficina de mi tesis de Grado // Experience of the office stage of my degree thesis [ESP/ENG]

Bienvenido todos a mi blog, en esta oportunidad les voy escribir un poco de de mi experiencia de lo que fue la etapa de oficina en la elaboración de trabajo de Grado. En las publicaciones anteriores de este tema les explique primeramente lo que fue la etapa de campo, luego lo que fue el momento de defensa y aprobación; y finalmente les quiero compartir en esta oportunidad en que consistió la elaboración del informe final.

Welcome all to my blog, in this opportunity I will write a little of my experience of what was the office stage in the development of degree work. In the previous publications on this topic I explained first what the field stage was, then what the moment of defense and approval was; and finally I want to share with you in this opportunity what the elaboration of the final report was.

TITULO DE LA INVESTIGACIÓN: PROPUESTA DE MEDIDAS PARA EL CONTROL DE LA SOCAVACIÓN EN LOS CIMIENTOS DEL PUENTE UBICADO SOBRE EL RÍO SANTA BÁRBARA, EN LA CALLE 3 ENTRE LOS SECTORES PERÚ VIEJO 1 Y LAS FLORES, MUNICIPIO HERES, CIUDAD BOLÍVAR, ESTADO BOLÍVAR.

TITLE OF RESEARCH: PROPOSAL OF MEASURES TO CONTROL THE UNDERMINING OF THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE BRIDGE OVER THE SANTA BÁRBARA RIVER, ON CALLE 3 BETWEEN PERU VIEJO 1 AND LAS FLORES, HERES MUNICIPALITY, BOLIVAR CITY, BOLIVAR STATE.

Primeramente les voy a mostrar lo que fue el flujograma de la metodología de trabajo para que tengan una idea más o menos de que se trató la investigación.

First I'm going to show you the flowchart of the work methodology so that you have an idea more or less of what the research was about.

RECOPILACIÓN DE INFORMACIÓN // COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

Primero se procedió a obtener informaciones, como lo son las bases teóricas necesarias que respaldaron la investigación. Por otra parte, se contó con medios informativos como los datos recolectados de las instituciones públicas, las cuales son: estudios meteorológicos, planos, memorias descriptivas, y búsqueda que complementarán la información. La información literaria, se recopilará de textos prescritos con anterioridad, consultando trabajos de grado relacionados, bibliografías en el Internet, manuales de la universidad, entre otros que facilitarán la ejecución de la tesis.

The first step was to obtain information, such as the necessary theoretical bases that supported the research. On the other hand, there were informative means such as data collected from public institutions, which are: meteorological studies, plans, descriptive memories, and search that will complement the information. The literary information will be gathered from previously prescribed texts, consulting related graduate works, bibliographies on the Internet, university manuals, among others that will facilitate the execution of the thesis.

Seguidamente se procedió a desarrollar los objetivos, que les puedo decir que no fue nada fácil, ya como ustedes saben y he comentado estoy estudiando Ingeniería Geológica en la universidad de Oriente (UDO), la cual tuve que cursar unas materias para una mención, y me elección fue la de petróleo, lo cual no me fue tan útil para la elaboración de me tesis de Grado ya que tuvo que ver más con la parte de hidrología e hidráulica.

Then we proceeded to develop the objectives, which I can tell you was not easy, as you know and I have commented I am studying Geological Engineering at the University of the East (UDO), which I had to take some subjects for a mention, and I chose the oil, which was not so useful for the development of my degree thesis as it had more to do with the part of hydrology and hydraulics.

1. En lo que fue la descripción de las dimensiones y geometría de las cimentaciones del puente, se realizó mediciones tanto de la estructura por el cual transitan los vehículos como las cimentaciones (Bases o fundaciones del puente) del mismo respectivamente. Las cimentaciones del puente en estudio eran los estribos colocados a ambos lados de la estructura y dos sistemas de pilas de fundación.

1. For the description of the dimensions and geometry of the bridge foundations, measurements were taken of both the structure through which the vehicles pass and the foundations (bridge bases or foundations) of the bridge respectively. The bridge foundations under study were the abutments placed on both sides of the structure and two foundation pier systems.

2. Luego, se procedió a desarrollar la caracterización hidrológica e hidráulica. Para la caracterización hidrológica se usó datos de la estación meteorológica del área de estudio, en este caso de la estación ciudad Bolívar-Aeropuerto para obtener las variables fundamentales capaces de inducir en la variación del caudal de agua del río Santa Bárbara, como lo son: la precipitación, la evaporación y la temperatura. La caracterización hidráulico se realizó mediante la determinación de parámetros hidráulicos, que no les explicaré en este momentos ya que es muy complicado y extenso.

2. Then, the hydrological and hydraulic characterization was developed. For the hydrological characterization, data from the meteorological station in the area of study were used, in this case from the Bolivar City-Airport station to obtain the fundamental variables capable of inducing variations in the water flow of the Santa Barbara River, such as: precipitation, evaporation and temperature. The hydraulic characterization was carried out by determining hydraulic parameters, which I will not explain at this time as it is very complicated and extensive.

3. Acá lo que se hizo fue tomar 4 muestras de suelos en cualquier parte del cauce del río en estudio ya que el suelo revestía homogeneidad, posteriormente en la Escuela Ciencias de la Tierra (UDO) se analizó la muestra, específicamente en el Laboratorio de Hidráulica y Mecánica de los fluidos.

3. Here what was done was to take 4 soil samples in any part of the river bed under study as the soil was homogeneous, then in the School of Earth Sciences (UDO) analyzed the sample, specifically in the Laboratory of Hydraulics and Mechanics of fluids.

4. Todo lo que le explique anteriormente de los tres objetivos se determinó con la finalidad de conocer la potencial socavación que se podría producir en las cimentaciones del puente en estudio.

4. Everything that I explained to you before about the three objectives was determined with the purpose of knowing the potential undermining that could be produced in the foundations of the bridge under study.

5. Finalmente se mencionaron algunas técnicas de control de erosión de acuerdo a la factibilidad de conseguir los materiales de construcción y que la elaboración del proyecto no fuese tan costoso. Esta parte fue uno de mis favoritas, ya que se realizaron entrevistas no estructuradas a instituciones públicas y privadas que trabajan con este tipo de proyecto, siendo el resultado final muy satisfactorio.

5. Finally, some erosion control techniques were mentioned according to the feasibility of obtaining construction materials and the fact that the project was not so expensive to develop. This part was one of my favorites, since unstructured interviews were conducted with public and private institutions that work with this type of project, being the final result very satisfactory.

Mediante las conclusiones obtenidas de los resultados finales, se dieron como recomendaciones los siguientes puntos:

Based on the conclusions drawn from the final results, the following points were given as recommendations:

• Se propuso a la comunidad universitaria evaluar los efectos de posibles socavaciones sobre las cimentaciones generadas por los patrones de flujos de corrientes para condiciones de avenidas con períodos de retorno de 25 y 50 años.

It was proposed to the university community to evaluate the effects of possible undermining of foundations generated by current flow patterns for flood conditions with return periods of 25 and 50 years.

• Se recomendó a los entes estatales encargados del mantenimiento de la estructura del puente sobre el río Santa Bárbara aplicar programas de concienciación a la población para evitar arrojar desechos sólidos en las adyacencias del puente lo cual podría incrementar el estrechamiento en los vanos del puente y generar una inusitada socavación local entorno a las pilas.

It was recommended that the state entities responsible for the maintenance of the structure of the bridge over the Santa Barbara River implement public awareness programmes to avoid dumping solid waste in the vicinity of the bridge, which could increase the narrowing of the bridge spans and generate an unusual local scour around the piers.

• Y finalmente se recomendó a la comunidad universitaria evaluar al menos diez (10) modelos matemáticos para la estimación de la socavación en torno a las pilas de todos los puentes del área urbana de Ciudad Bolívar para determinar su sensibilidad y decidir sobre el método que mejor se adapte a las condiciones de los ríos de Ciudad Bolívar.

And finally it was recommended that the university community evaluate at least ten (10) mathematical models for the estimation of scour around the piers of all bridges in the urban area of Ciudad Bolivar to determine their sensitivity and decide on the method that best suits the conditions of the rivers of Ciudad Bolivar.

Por último les puedo confirmar y como les he dicho en otras ocasiones que esta ha sido una de las mejores etapas de aprendizaje que he vivido en una de las mejores casa de estudio de mi país como lo es la Universidad de Oriente, que a pesar las dificultades aún sigue en pie de lucha y de egresar a unos excelentes profesionales.

Finally, I can confirm, as I have told you on other occasions, that this has been one of the best stages of learning that I have experienced in one of the best houses of study in my country, the Universidad de Oriente, which, despite the difficulties, is still struggling to graduate some excellent professionals.
