Will The ECB Give Each European Union Citizen a Digital Euro?

The European Central Bank has been studying the technical, legal and regulatory issues involved in issuing a digital euro, but it will not make a decision until at least 2023.

A report by the ECB's internal task force on digital currencies said that a decision to issue digital euros would have “significant consequences” for the central bank's operations and that its research should be completed within two years.

The report was published on Monday after being commissioned earlier this year. It is unclear what the final conclusions of this study will be, but it seems that the ECB is still far from deciding whether or not to issue digital euros.
