Ship Flying Above The Roofs!
Impossible? Take a look here.
The catch is - it's not a ship! It's an offshore heavy lift jack-up vessel and it's mounted on those vertical rails which go down all the way to the bottom of the sea where they are firmly embedded into the seabed:
Those rails can then be retracted and the whole platform becomes floatable and can be moved or towed away to another position.
This very vessel/platform was built in the nearby shipyard (Uljanik, Pula, Croatia) and was launched into the sea in August 2017.
Of course, before actual delivery, the platform has to be thoroughly tested which involves lifting the vessel up to the maximum height, to test for stability and maneuverability. And that's exactly what happened here - the vessel was tested and lifted 90 meters above the sea-level, where it was visible from far away.

Last five pictures were taken from this article, a local web-portal wrote a little story about the whole occasion (in Croatian):

Blink for a reason and it seems so crazy that the construction is made like this . Pretty cool
That's brilliant and very creative way! Thanks for sharing @vortac!
Exactly that is why we are here on steemit :-)
Everyday some amazing creative new stuff.

WTF! I have never seen anything similar even I have as a supplier the biggest heavy industries, as Mitsubishi , Toshiba or Hyundai...
I knew that some kind of platform was being built in the shipyard here, but I never thought it could be lifted 90 meters above the sea level. Seeing it literally hanging above the city, I had to google it and research it until I found out all the details.
It is indeed a massive and curious project...incredible
Amazing Architecturalphotography
I’ve always wondered how those off shore rigs operated! Thanks for the detailed list, at first I was so confused as to what I was looking at 🤔 but now I get it. Thanks for sharing 👌
It had me puzzled until I read the whole article. Without explanation, I would say that it's a montage :D (at first glance, I didn't even notice the vertical rail peeping out), it's good to learn something new today, thanks for sharing.
p.s. your catchy "title" is really intriguing :)
It was about time that I contributed something unique to #photocircle :)
I was pleasantly surprised by it, thanks :) it had me thinking also on how you write your post, the way you shot this scene and also the technical info you put into it is something of high value. Im also on the engineering / construction side & with photography as my hobby, so i have a lot of take away from your post. Cheers!
Nice choice of words for your title.
This thing looks huge but like I always say, nikad dosadno u Puli... :D
The irony of it - I've heard Uljanik is losing millions on that project. They never did anything like that before, so they've run into all sorts of difficulties and are way behind the schedule. Not to mention the vessel itself got badly damaged in November, after it broke away from its mooring due to strong winds.

A very effective and efficient tool in construction work.
