Two weeks in a row! Welcome to the 97th issue of SteemSTEM Distilled, a curation effort by the members of the @steemstem team. Almost 100 of them!

We present in this distilled our top two handpicked post choices for the last week (from several hundreds of STEM-related posts on Steem). This week's distilled highlights were selected by a one-man team made of @lemouth.

Some statistics are given at the end of this post.

Please do not be discouraged if you did not make it on this issue. The chances to be picked are low. In the meantime, you may wish to check these guidelines for extra tips on how your writing could be more effective (or ask us on Discord.

Our top choices

Allergies and the defence against diseases #2

Did you ever want to know how our good old human body was reacting to external attacks? @loveforlove wrote a very nice post (actually, a second very nice post) where the major role of B-cells and T-cells is highlighted. On top of that, a few words about vaccines and how they function. if you are interested, feel free to pass by!

Cosmology: The strange darkness, Olbers' Paradox and the main features of the Universe.

For the second post pf the week, let us go directly far into the star. @emperorhassy tells us many things about stars (and how we can observe them), as well as galaxies and their different forms. A post to go far into the sky, that is worth a read!

Statistics

SteemSTEM offers support to anyone using our app, steemstem.io. We recall that:

  • Posting an article through the app automatically yields a 5% stronger upvote at curation time.
  • Posting a reply to an article (or to another reply) from the app can sometimes yield some SteemSTEM support.
  • Setting @steemstem as a beneficiary to the post automatically yields a stronger upvote (up to 5%).

Last week, the SteemSTEM curator teams have supported 60 posts written by 44 authors. 25 of these posts have been posted through the app (and got a 5% stronger upvote). Among these 60 posts, we find:

  • 19 small upvotes (less than 20%)
  • 11 medium upvotes (in the 20%-50% range)
  • 30 large upvotes (larger than 50%)

We have not upvoted any comment posted through the app (because there is a bug in the script to be fixed...).

The list of upvoted post authors, potentially getting some extra support from @curie and/or @utopian-io, is:

Congrats to everyone! I will try to fix the comment script asap. But now time to get to my bed :)

I know how hard it must be to put these together and do everything else, but I think SteemSTEM Distilled gives the community a sense of cohesion, and that's important in a community. It's really nice to have you, and Distilled, back.

I agree with you. This is an important contribution. However, it also consists in a lot of work, and thus requires some time I don't necessarily have :/

Anyways, I will do my best!

@loveforlove : I was just reading about T-cell and APC from this thesis: http://www.bgu.ac.il/~ofarago/NadivDharan_Phd-Thesis.pdf Then I saw your article! De-javu!

Thanks @dexterdev for sharing the link. I've just gone through the thesis now. It's a great read except for the complex mathematical formulations. Lol.

Are they the same person? :)

No this is another person. A postdoc in US. And also the thesis belongs to theoretical/computational biophysicist, not a pure biologist.

To me. those are very similar (when I stop the reading at the title ;) ),

I've not yet studied up to a post doctorate. I'm still aspiring for my MSc.

Well, we may see that as a target for your life ;)

Yes, it is. Thanks.

Up steemstem.

You are very welcome! The pleasure was for me!

Great thanks to all the management of steemstem. I sincerely appreciate all your effort and support. I wish you guys more energy, strength and success.

Let's all keep up the good work!

Thanks...

Thanks for your nice words!

It's my pleasure.

Looks like distilled is picking up .... Steam!!! (cue canned laughter).

Now we're so close to 100 we can't stop.

Actually, the number #100 will be release a couple of weeks before my offline summer time (and therefore we will get there before the break!). I still need to finalize the one of tomorrow... It will be out most probably on Tuesday or Wednesday :/

I think #96 was better, not least of all because 96 is the sexual position of couples who have fought and are not talking to each other right now.

#97 is what happens when the back gets broken, isn't it? :D
