The Discovery of Antimatter, it's Uses and Limitations.
Humanity has always been in the state of unrest. And Utility from technology never ceases, but continues to grow like tissues in the human body.
Different scientist and Engineers have joined forces in this modern age to enhance the state of Technology. Many infrastructures and new devices have been built and many more will arise with time. But only one discovery has left mankind unstable. And that's the Existence of "Antimatter".
I am considerate that 30% here understands these concept. But for those who don't, I will outline a Comprehensive description and definition of Antimatters along side its properties, application and limitations.
Antimatters are considered materials composed of anti particles when compared to matter. Every charged, and chemical properties possessed by an ordinary matter, an antimatter has the collective opposite. In matter, there exist sub-particles called the neutron(nuetral), proton(postively charged), and electron(negatively charged). But in antimatters, it's sub particles are anti-proton(negatively charged), positron(anti-electron), anti-nuetron and anti-nuclie. Anti-matters as coined by William Hicks in 1880 and Paul Dirac in 1928, both proved it's existence using the Eistern equation on the validation ofVortex Theory of gravity.
Positron, although a sub particle in anti-matters, is produced in a pair production process during the ionisation of metals conducted by JJ Thompson and Gieger.
The experiment postulates the ionisation effect of metals capable of releasing it's electrons binded to it. When a photon of light (gamma rays) Is placed on a metal with low ionisation energy, the electron gets charged up through radiation and thrown out in its excited state.
When the Energy of the photon is above the threshold level of 1.6eV, the collision of the photon with the metallic surface becomes intense, resulting to pair production process.
In pair production process, protons are produced in bits since Antiparticles are created everywhere in the universe where high-energy particle collisions take place. Although positron are produce they inhibit short life span of few minutes before termination. Because it gets annihilated easily when it colides with existing matters particles like electron yielding more energy of 0.6eV. The process through which anti-matters are produced in the universe is termed "Baryogenesis"
Each sub-particles in matter and anti-matters bear the same nature of existence and properties. Consider positron and electron, each have the same mass, size and nature but differ in charge. I believe in high school we were all taught that electrons move round the nucleus of an atom in a circular path as postulated by Neil borh. Just like electrons, positrons exhibit the same process, it revolves round the orbit of an anti-atom.
Matters and anti-matter have contrasting nature, and properties,the similar you think they are the more different they turn out. In terms of their Quantum property (quantisation of Energy and quantum number), they differ directly. Plus differences in electric charge potrates total anihalation of both particles when it's atoms collides, yielding tons of energy and production of lots of heat.
The Energy and heat emmited craves out the main purpose of anti-matters to humanity. It's energy could be use for so many applications in day to day activities. IN Eistern Albert(1905) model on photo-electric effect, "The amount of the released energy is proportionate to the total mass of the collided matter and antimatter, in accord with the mass–energy equivalence equation, E = mc2".
This explains that the energy produced is a dependent variable, it's scope depends fully on the mass of both particles in collision with compelling speed.
Massive energy is derived from the anihalation of both particles, extremely deadlier than the energy derived form the great Hiroshima nuclear explosion. With large energy source comes great utilitilization and application, and mankind just got the infrastructure to utilize them.
APPLICATIONS OF ANTI-MATTERS
- Treatment of Cancerous Cells
Just as photon and X-ray's, anti-matters can be used in hospitals for Cancerous treatments. In Positron Emmision Tormography, Anti-positron emmiting isotopes is used in a medical imaging modality , when attached to a chemical that is taken up for use by some process in the body. FDG-PET F-18-fluoro-deoxyglucose is a very common diagnostic tool for oncologists to help find tumors throughout the body.
- Power source/ Fuels in Automobiles and Rockets
Every technological device invented depends on power to function. The use of power in the modern age is something worth while, And by that I mean everything depends on it.
During the anihalation of anti-matters and regular matter, if 1 anti proton, reacts with 1 proton from the environment, it yields a release of 0.3 nanoJoulesof energy per unit and 186.4 Trillion Joules of energy per gram.
Practically a gallon of gas contains 120 million joules of energy, and if one gram of antimatter contains the same amount of energy of gas per gallon. It could be use as a power source in rockets and spaceships if properly handled. The amount of energy generated gives a rocket a pinch of the speed of light for Space Travel.
- War
Different weapons and missles are made up of regular matter, And if so, varieties of Anti-matters weapons, propellant and explosives could be made and used.
Problems Associated with Anti-matters.
- Quantity and Cost of Production
Presently the cost of producing a unit gram of anti-matters is high about 62.5 trillion dollars as estimated by NASA. Although lots of effort are placed Only a few million of anti-protons are produced.
- Short Life span
Anti-matters has a very short life span, it gets anihalated in contact with matter. The maximum storage duration of anti-matters was for 17minutes at best. So even if produced, the probability of containing it is low.
Mysteries of Anti-matters
- Where are all the anti-matters?
If the Big Bang Theory supports the formation of the universe and matters. What could be said about anti-matters?. And if there ever be an explanation, why does the universe consists of greater percenof matters than anti-matters?
- How are anti-matters produced?
Presently just two expeririment have been placed to produce antihydrogen particle, but it's rate is slim and slow.
- Does Anti-matters fall up?
Gravity has the same influence on all matters, but if it differs with antimatter, what would it influence be?
- Will there ever be Anti-hydrogen bombs?
Funny to say, the rate of production of a Milli grame of antihydrogen is very slim. And if it were to be produced, such possibility accounts for varieties of years to come.
