My Trip to the CERN Supercollider. What No One At CERN Discussed: The Swiss Chocolates!
If you haven't been following the blog on @steemstem, about 20 of us (I believe there were 22) poured into Switzerland where we, just yesterday, saw what is possibly the most technologically advanced laboratory, as well as the single largest machine in the world, located just outside of Geneva, Switzerland. While everyone on the @steemstem channel is going to be talking about all the technological and sciencey aspects of the supercollider and particle physics, I thought I'd show you the most important reason to visit CERN, start out on a bit of a lighter note and show you... the Swiss chocolates and pastries!
I mean, who comes to Switzerland without oohing and ahhing over the spectacular array of chocolates available that are unrivaled in the world except, perhaps, in Belgium. No other chocolates are as famous and delicious as Swiss chocolates and if you leave Switzerland without trying these decadent sweets, you will have missed out.
These images are my own from a local pastry and chocolate shop, called Sebastian Brocard, on the French side, just a few hundred meters from the border of Switzerland in the town of Saint-Genis-Pouilly, less than a 10 minute drive from CERN. The towns around CERN are quite small, but are just a 15-20 minute drive from Geneva, so is an incredible location for a small town with the amenities of Geneva just a short drive, bus, or tram ride from the nation's capital.
Perhaps if you weren't convinced to come to CERN because of the supercollider and the science, maybe you'll want to come next year for the chocolates and pastries. It's as good a reason as any to come to this beautiful landlocked mountain region in the center of western Europe.
All images are my own, taken with my Nexus 5X smartphone
Please join us on the Steemstem project! @steemstem
Haha, yes if we would have had longer time at CERN/in Geneva I would have been able to give you some good chocolate recommendations :)
Anyway, I'm of course delighted you enjoyed the tour. @lemouth has now invited me to steem so I hope to be able to make some contribution to #steemSTEM when I have time! Stay tuned, it seems an experimental particle physicist voice is not yet in the mix so I think I can add something
@ana.luiza, @aurel.proorocu, @fredrikaa, @howo and I did some chocolate shopping in Geneva. It was quite tasty I have to admit ;)
Those all look delicious. Perhaps by turning on the collider....the scientists just wanted to link their office with a bakery. For science!
Mouth watering chocolates, i can see some like berry's and fruit like are they part of the chocolates or fruits taking after chocolate. Steemstem i want know more about. i will certainly check for myself thank you.
