Well there is another layer to things in that we have two copies of every gene (one on each of our duplicate chromosomes... one from mom one from dad) so it is possible to have a genetic problem in one gene but not the other... ie you can be a carrier, but if the gene you got from both parents had a mutation in it, then a child can show a problem that neither parent exhibited.

Yea...and it could be due to the fact that the disease is sex-linked and recessive or developed through linkage in a repulsed state. I got the later part from my genetic Prof. who explained how it is genetically possible for a white couple to give birth to a coloured baby without any issue of unfaithfulness from the wife.
