Early equipment
Before the telescopes was invented, all astronomy was done with the naked eye. However, there were some instruments to help astronomers when they studied the sky.

• observation were built to study the sky. This stone-built observatory in India was designed to help people measure the movements of stars and planets, and foretell eclipse.
• Quadrant and sextants were instruments that enabled astronomers to work out the position of stars and planets.
