The 9th ranked Purdue Boilermakers are back in action tonight when they face the Fighting Illini. The game tips off at 6pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on Fox Sports One. It will be played at Assembly Hall in Champaign, Illinois. Purdue is favored by 8.5 points and the over/under is 146.5.
Purdue is 24-5 on the season and are a lot of people’s picks to make it to the Final 4 next month. They recently suffered through a 3 game losing streak to Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin. But they bounced back on Sunday when they beat a good Penn State team 76-73. They have been playing without their second best player Vincent Edwards. He is the leading rebounder on the team and is the second highest scorer. The team is hopeful though that he can play tonight. Purdue will finish their regular season game later this week when the host the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday.
It has been an extremely disappointing season for the Illinois Fighting Illini. They have lost 5 out of 6 and have no chance at making the NCAA Tournament, unless they pull off a miracle and win the Big Ten Tournament. It is senior night tonight though and that might give the team a little extra motivation to send out their veteran players on a high note. Leron Black, senior forward, has had a nice career. He is averaging a team high 15.3 points per game and should get a nice ovation tonight when his name is announced.
It is going to be hard for the home team to get a win in this one. Illinois is simply just out matched and will be over powered by Purdue. The home crowd and emotion might be able to keep this game close for a bit, but when the 40 minutes are up on the clock, Purdue will have won handily. Get ready for the postseason Purdue Boilermakers as it could be a magical one.

@steemsports @scottybuckets how does one become a steemsports presenter or editor?
They are deciding to hold Edwards out tonight. Coaches decision. I think if the postseason was on the line he’d be suiting up. But the plan is to have him back for their senior night against Minn. Ankle injuries are a pain. No pun intended.
Even with that said....I think you’re right. Purdue should have no troubles.
However......Illinois DID beat a 20 win Nebraska team not long ago. Almost beat Nebraska earlier in the year but a buzzer beating three ended that upset bid. Keep an eye on Leron Black. He can flat out play. Ya never know. Strange things can happen on a chilly Thursday night in February. : )
