Running in parallel with the "Biggest Game of the Year" which consisted of the Boston Celtics, with the newly acquired Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers was the Thunder and Lakers in what can be coined as the "Second Biggest Game on the Slate of 1/3/18". Leading into the game, the Thunder were 5 point favorites and Vegas predicted for this affair to be highly offensive, which isn't a surprise with the Lakers young offensive-minded players, the O/U came in at 214.5 and the final score exceeded the O/U by a total of 14.5 points.
Russ, George, Melo, and the rook, Tyler Ferguson lead the Thunder to a 133-96 win over the host team, the Lakers. If you have not heard of Tyler Ferguson yet, you are not alone, this guy has played in sub-25 games and has been an absolute disaster thus far, tonight was the first night ever that he scored over 10 points, knocking down 9-12 and 6-9 from long range giving him 24 points, and on top of that, he had a whopping 3 steals, pick pocketing the Lakers heavy!
Russ came up just short of what has become the norm for him in a triple-double as he finished with 20 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, and matched Tyler Ferguson with 3 steals. George and Anthony both tallied 20+ points and both tallied 1+ steal. Something interesting that occurred was Raymond Felton playing 16 minutes and in those 16 minutes not scoring one point but rather dishing 10 assists!
The Lonzo-Ball-less Lakers had a very poor outing tonight against a team who is very poor in the defensive category, which comes as a pretty big surprise. The only player on the Lakers who had a semi-decent outing was Kyle Kuzma, who some believe is more talented than Lonzo Ball, as he scored 18 on 7-14 from the field. Nobody from the Laker team showed up last evening, which was displayed by the score.
