21 Virginia Tech vs 22 West Virginia Preview

2 ranked teams battle tonight in a historic rivalry. The #21 Virginia Tech Hokies go up against the #22 West Virginia Mountaineers. The game kicks off at 7:30pm Eastern Standard Time at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. You can see the game on national television on ABC.
Here is what to watch when West Virginia has the ball:
Former Florida quarterback, Will Grier, takes over the offense for head coach Dana Holgorsen. Grier will have the opportunity to play in a high paced and exciting offensive unit that will try and put up 40+ points in every game they play. He has stud running back, Justin Crawford, back after a 1,200 yard season. Grier also gets talented wide receiver Ka’Raun White back. The offense will be a lot of fun to watch and Will Grier is a sleeper pick to win the Heisman Trophy. The Mountaineers will give the Virginia Tech defense all it can handle tonight.
Here is what to watch when Virginia Tech has the ball:
Redshirt Freshman Josh Jackson gets the start at quarterback tonight. He will face a West Virginia defense that only has 3 returning starters on an already weak unit. Jackson has Travon McMillan returning at running back. He got into the endzone 10 times last year and will be able to take pressure off of the young quarterback. Cam Phillips is back at wide receiver for the Hokies. He had nearly 1,000 yards receiving last year and will be the #1 target. Expect Virginia Tech to be able to move the ball well on the ground tonight.
Prediction:
Las Vegas has the Virginia Tech Hokies -5 tonight against the West Virginia Mountaineers. The over/under is at 53.5 points. With this being the first game of the year and 2 new starting quarterbacks, I will lean towards the more experienced one. And that is no doubt Will Grier. Grier will face a stingy defense tonight but I still think he will be able to make enough plays not only to cover the 5 point spread, but to win the game outright. Virginia Tech should be able to put up points on the lackluster Mountaineer defense, but just not enough.
Final Score: West Virginia 27 - Virginia Tech 24
