The Golden Duck's Foot Nugget Found in Western Australia.

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago

A Giant 3.23 kg Gold Nugget which has been named the "Duck's Foot" has been discovered in northern Western Australia. The Nugget contains a massive 2.11 kg or 68 oz of pure gold with a value of over AUS$110,000 and was one of six good size nuggets found by this lucky but very persistent detectorist.

He was using an awesome Aussie built metal detector made by Minelab which picked up the signal of the nugget at a depth of 800mm or 32 inches deep.

Haha He most certainly does lyrica, Lol, thanks for that it made me laugh, cheers mate.

I'm glad you like my comment @silverbug because I liked your post, it makes me want to grab a detector.

That's a massive nugget and it's a great shape as well, thanks for the update @silverbug. :o)

Sure is a great shape, it really does look like a ducks foot, I think it would look great in my display cabinet, Lol, cheers mate.

Now that’s a great looking nugget, do you think it will get melted down or kept as a nugget? . Thanks mike

No they don't melt them down these days, they are worth much more as a nugget, especially the big ones.
Most of the big nuggets end up in museums or private collections, cheers mate.

It’s good they keep them in their natural shape, thanks for your reply cheers mike

Upvote and resteem. Great post Silverbug.

Thanks lucky, I haven't seen you around for a while, how have you been?

Very very very busy my friend. Nothing personal.

I think I am travelling to Australia tomorrow...

Lol, you better come well prepared my friend it is extremely remote where this beast was found, cheers.

hi, i have never thought of metal detecting as a hobby before........hmmm.... it would be amazing to find something like that! think i would probably faint or something :) thank you for sharing hope you have a fab day, respect

Metal detecting is a lot of hard work but it's great fun, it's very exciting to find a nugget that's been waiting for millions of years to be discovered by you. cheers.

I think it's one of the best places in the world to find these monsters but it's a very tuff place to work, very remote, cheers mate.

Well, for that kind of money its worth digging a meter deep. Even if its hot and dusty... :)

Your not wrong, it took him about 2 hours to dig it out of solid clay. Most people go there between May to about October when it's still nice and cool. In this region you can't really go there in summer because it's the rainy season and it floods and is impossible to move around in any vehicle, cheers mate.

Even if it was a few days of work, with the driving and all that - 100.000 is still not a bad pay for that. The only problem is: its most probably a once in a lifetime event.

Well the guy who found it is a retiree who's been out there scratching around for many years. The machine he was using is state of the art Minelab GPZ7000 so it wasn't beginners luck, cheers mate.

May be so, but even with a good metal detector you wont find such a big lump very often - simply because they are very rare at that size. Thats why the big mining companies are happy to scratch 5 - 8 grams out of 1 ton of dirt.
May be the new way of gold digging is done on electronic scrap yards... :)

Now that's a nugget!
