Silver Babies and Mommies

A few months ago @silversaver888 declared I have a love for mother and baby coins, rounds and bars. Though I had never considered this until her mention, that lady stacker is totally correct. I love mama and baby silver. Well at least animal moms and babes. 🐔 🐣 😄

So, one newer series that has caught my eye... The Next Generation series from the Perth Mint. Each coin in the series is 2oz and depicts an iconic Australian animal mum with her bub. The second release in this series is the 2019 Silver Crocodile.

As I mentioned this coin weighs 2 Troy Oz. It has a face value of $2AUD and is .9999 pure silver. The mintage of each coin in this series is just 75,000.

This coin is crafted in the piedfort style. Piedfort is a French word that translates to heavy weight. Coins of this style generally have the same face diameter as a one ounce coin, but are much thicker.

The coin’s obverse features a new image of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the 6th portrait of the Queen to appear on Australian coins. It was designed by artist Jody Clarke.

Now for a few facts about the saltwater crocodile.

“Salties” are the world’s largest reptile with males growing as long as 23 feet! In the wild they can live to around 70 years. They spend their time mostly in brackish or fresh water, but have been known to also swim far out to sea! These crocodiles are opportunistic hunters and can lay in wait for prey submerged under water for up to an hour! Saltwater crocodile can be found throughout northern Australia, Southeast Asia and parts of eastern India. source
