2018 Steem Silver Rounds: Get em while they last like I just did!
I just got 5 ordered and just surpassed the 3 Litecoin transaction confirmations required to complete the order placement requirement so it is now locked in! That's right, you can pay in crypto (or by other methods like paypal as well). The design is as shown in the image below (the coin to the right) and the image shown was taken straight from the ordering website https://steemsilverround.com/
If you're not a silver stacker and are not familiar with what's going on here, allow me to explain...
The Birth and Growth of ssg-community
Back in 2017 a small group of silver and gold enthusiasts started a tag called #steemsilvergold on the platform. I "joined" the group (started posting under that tag a couple of time per month) around August of last year to show off my recent buys, some of my favorite bullion I've got stashed away, and things like that.
I met more active members of that little group like @raybrockman and some others (Ray stands out for some reason, he's just a memorable kinda character I guess), then over the next several months the tag became more popular and the group grew as more silver and gold bugs joined steemit and discovered this sub-community. Then the first voting bot was created in late 2017 and now we have a total of 2 of them and from what I can tell well over 100 members of the community. It's pretty awesome!
The steem silver round
At some point last year the idea was proposed to make a silver coin dedicated to the steemit community and thus the steem silver round was born. This is the 2017 version which was done by @phelimint and there were 1500 of them minted and all included certificates of authenticity and serial numbers. They're really great pieces and the project coordinators did a really good job getting them minted and sent out in a timely manner. These 2 are mine mine mine! I'll never let them go.
So now we have this year's project underway and orders are being taken
And if you don't want to miss out I'd suggest placing an order kind of soon. Not to sound like a pushy salesman, but they went quickly last year and there was less attention focused on them then. Now we also have roughly twice as many steemit accounts and a lot more #ssg-community members so I suspect the 2500 that are being made this year will go quickly.
The project this year is being headed up by @sevinwilson and as I said there is a website that you order them on. This link will take you straight to the page where you can put what you want in your cart and get to ordering...
https://steemsilverround.com/shop/
The timeline as far as I know is still a moving target, but I think they're anticipating roughly 6-8 weeks to start shipping them. You can find a lot more detail in @sevinwilson latest post about the project here https://steemit.com/steemsilvergold/@sevinwilson/pre-order-the-2018-steem-silver-round-now-www-steemsilverround-com
And hello there! That's my order confirmation in my inbox! Got it before I finished making the post. I had just ordered and sent the LTC when I started typing this post. Maybe that'll satisfy my silver cravings (stackitus) for a bit...
Now that's service! I'd like to thank those who have worked to make both the 2017 and 2018 silver rounds projects happen--I know it is a lot of work and it is greatly appreciated. It's nice to have crypto and Steem and all, but it's also a good feeling to have something physical that you can hold in your hand that represents a little piece of the steemit platform and your investment in it.
Happy stacking! And PLEASE help spread the word to anyone you know who might want one of these. If they sell out then the markup can go as high as 50-100% almost immediately. At least that's what I saw people who missed out last year offering to pay for one of them.
Thank you for posting this! The word about the Steem Silver Round gets spread by this!!
I hope it was seamless!! 👊🏻👊🏻
Hey @sevinwilson! Great to see you stop by and thanks for leaving me a comment :) Yeah I'm trying to get the word out especially to people who may not be stackers like us. I have quite a few followers and a lot of them are people who started following after reading posts I've done about non-stacking related subjects like running, yoga, the occasional rant that I go on about how much I hate corporate america, things like that...so hopefully we may get a few new eyes on the project and people who weren't already aware of it can pick up some coin if they so desire.
Glad I can help get the word out and yes the ordering process was very easy for me to follow. Thanks for all your hard work.
I ordered mine a few days ago - The first coin I’ve ever bought! Gotta start the stack sometime!
That's great Matt! Welcome to the wonderful world of bullion! Glad to see you're getting into the silver stacking game via this coin. Always nice to see someone making their first bullion purchase!
Hope you're well my friend.
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I've been a silver collector for a long, focusing on mainly old or obsolete America currency out of a passion for collecting and feeling like I'm preserving history while still being on a budget. This is the perfect combination of both my hobbies now between that and Steemit. As soon as I get some spare cash to buy some of these count me in! Thank you very much for sharing this!
That's pretty cool that you collect older versions of US currency--I have a small lot of that type of thing myself (liberty dollars, Kennedy half dollars, Mercury dimes, etc). I actually used to own more which I had bought in ~2006 when silver was cheaper (rolls of mercury dimes) but I sold those rolls when silver went up. I have mixed feelings about that decision but oh well. It's history.
If you don't have funds to pay for them now I have read that there are people in certain regions representing their countries / regions (like Team Australia) making group buys in case anyone does miss out. I think there's also someone who offered to cover the cost of the rounds for people who are interested but don't have the funds (sorry the name of that individual eludes me and I kind of skimmed the post I read it in). If you look at the @ssg-community account's blog and @sevinwilson blog you may be able to figure out how to get a small quantity reserved if you don't have the funds right now. So there's where you might start looking if you wanted to reserve some. Just a suggestion.
Thanks for the comment!
Thank you again for the info. I want some of these BADddd now, the more I look at them. I started collecting these as a hobby just because it interested having a historical significance as well as a built in collectibility and tradeable value based on the price of silver. I did sell a bunch of my more common things also but I held on to a small amount of pieces like an 1807 silver half dollar I bought a long time ago that is the center piece of my collection. The US became an independent country in the late 1700's so this thing was made not long after the US formed. I plan to give that to my daughter one day when she's older now, but she's only 2 now, so that won't be for some time still.
I got a couple a few days ago, and paid with Litecoin too!
Brilliant minds think alike :)
I also like silver gold and am just getting into crypto
Now and the past few weeks seem to have been a good time to buy crypto with the prices being what they are...I say this with caution but it looks like cryptos might be about to start heading back upward in price (fingers crossed).
I've also been in silver and gold longer than I have been buying crypto.
are you in the US?
are you in the USA (I might have double posted this)
