Theres something about the Half Crown, and heres my latest \o/
When a coin feels good in the hand even when its cupro nickel, It feels even better when its Sterling Silver, These coins feel like money, even the ones that don't have any precious metals in them, The older ones really feel like money due to their silver content, i like these coins so much i think i will have to date run them in an album at some point, Up to 1919 these were made of Sterling Silver and then from 1920 to 1946 they contained 50 percent Silver and from 47 onwards they were Cupro Nickel, This one is from 1899, a slice of history, some more silver for the stack whats not to like\o/
This design was minted between 1893-1901 and yearly mintages varied from around 1.5 million to 4.5 million this coin had a mintage of just over 2.8 million, The engraver was Thomas Brock and the coin is 2mm thick with a reeded edge, and a diameter of 32.3mm, made of sterling silver and weighs just over 14g.
The year it was minted saw Marconi successfully transmit a radio signal accross the English Channel.
the Lynmouth life-boat Louisa is launched from Porlock Weir, having to be hauled overland for 15 miles with a climb in excess of 1400 feet across Exmoor, to save the crew of the Forrest Hall in the Bristol Channel .
So here she is :)
This coin brings my @stackingoal almost up to date just need another 23g to keep me on track before the end of April :)
