Please tell me this day: Who is Your God?

in #steemschurch5 years ago

In the past, it was very easy to identify as well as label men as idolaters because they made wooden images to worship as gods. Sadly, today we have mistaken and perhaps have missed the important message by thinking of idols as statues of woods or stone as was used and known in the past.

Note that as the world is transmogrifying, our understanding needs to get transformed too and reshaped. Little wonder Paul said: "Be ye not conformed but be transformed through/by the renewing of your mind"
The truth remains that an idol needs not to be a graven image that is given sacred value and power. Thus, what you put your ultimate trust in, and of which you look up for security and happiness is your god/idol.

Few days ago, I was shocked when God revealed to me that my work was becoming an idol for me. I couldn't help but wept bitterly when God Spirit convicted me that I have been very faithful to an earthly boss and employer who pays me monthly something that can't even take me to the bank, at the detriment of He- God my Boss who pays me per seconds with good health and life and He himself made the boss and gave me the strength that I use working for the small boss. God reminded me that I've never been to work late nor have intention of staying away from work even if I'm sick, I always try to get to work to tell them about the illness, as no excuse would be accepted.

He also warned me that my job was an idol to me cause I was more dedicated to it more than I was dedicated to his work. I was always in time cause I did not want to be docked by my small boss. In fact always put in my best just to please the boss but would always have an excuse to give for not being in church or not going out for evangelism. I go to church by five minutes to eight on Sunday morning and to work at 6:50am from Monday to Friday so that I meet up. I would feel guilty if the line is crossed against me, but has never felt any sense of remorse for repeatedly going to church late. What an idol I had?

Believe me, this conviction got me born again over night. So Dearly beloved of God, I would ask again, who or what is your idol and god. Could it be your spouse, parent, children, job, many zeros in your bank account or perhaps your academic attainment? Silly as it may sound, anything that you continuously think about and put your trust in is no doubt your god. Whatever you bow to or reference more than God is an idol.

When Moses stayed a bit longer in the mountain, the people's attention drifted from praising and thanking God for delivering them from the Egyptians and from the Red sea. They told Aaron to make them an idol. Aaron too could not resit their pressure, he allowed the people to become an idol to him to making an idol for them to worship. The reality is that we are Spirit beings and the only thing that we were created for is to praise, reference and worship God. Thus, at anytime that we do otherwise, we have but sinned.

My prayer for you and myself is that God would always convict us whenever we drift away from Him to serving any idol.

Remember what I told you about my job being a god/idol? Well, I have quit the job.

Nothing and no one would be an idol or a god to me else than God. You can make the same decision.

PRAYER

Lord please upload my faith to serve only you in Jesus name I pray.

Who is Your God?

None, the idea of divinity was created by humans.

Seriously? I didn't know about that. Maybe a little explanation backup with Biblical reference would help clear my doubt and ignorance. Thank you for dropping by.

How would a bible reference help clear up doubt and ignorance? That's stupid. You're following a book written by humans, you just don't want to think of it that way.

Hmmmmmmmm, your confusing me the more. But come to think of it, the scripture records that the Bible was written through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. So was it human, like flesh that wrote it or the human that got inspired by God's Spirit?

So was it human, like flesh that wrote it or the human that got inspired by God's Spirit?

Would you believe me if I tell you I am guiding you to the truth by the power of god's spirit? No. But would you believe people who told you a book was powered by god's spirit? You shouldn't.

It's all religious gossip designed and edited throughout the centuries to keep people like you in their "places". Not like sheep, but cattle.

There is some historical truth in the bible when compared to historical events, but the religious distortion is intended to make you lower your head before tyrants (religious and political "leaders").

Hmmmmmm, that's very strong a word your saying. Well I must be honest with you, some verses in the scriptures do seem to confuse the believers a lot and some even tend to conflict on the very thing we believe in, thereby shaking the foundations of our faith.

Nonetheless, I still uphold to what the Bible says, remember that Timothy records that that book Bible is for *teaching, doctrine, reprove and the edification of the body of Christ.

I do not want to be an atheist neither do I want to becloud my sense of reasoning because of what I am being told about the gospel

Thank you for your insightful contribution

Imo an atheist is as irrational as a religious person.

I am agnostic. I understand there might be something like a god or some other kind of force/entity, but I also understand that it is something simply beyond human comprehension.
