Every year there is a choir competition in the seaside town of Pattaya, and I always use that opportunity to select a popular major work and invite the choirs who are coming to compete to arrive a few days earlier and throw together that work with orchestra in a few short rehearsals. It's always exciting and you never know what you're going to get. Next July the work is "Das klagende Lied" by Mahler.
