Steem + Sinulog = Steemnulog: Steemit in Sinulog, The Grandest Festival yet, an "Awe" Experience!
STEEMNULOG 2018
Looks like Steemit really invaded Sinulog, The Grandest Festival in Cebu!
And to tell you guys, if it weren't for @steemph.cebu, I wouldn't have had my first experience in participating Sinulog.
Yep! 20 years and this is my first time joining Sinulog Festival and to think that I'm a pure Cebuano(not by blood but citizenship). Haha!
To start with, how about a little bit of historical background of Sinulog?
The Sinulog-Santo Niño Festival is an annual cultural and religious festival held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City, and is the centre of the Santo Niño Catholic celebrations in the Philippines.
Imagine? A cultural and religious festival and yet this is still my first time in participating? Haha!
Sinulog is a dance ritual in honor of the miraculous image of the Santo Niño. The dance moves to the sound of the drums and this resembles the current (Sulog) of what was then known as Cebu's Pahina River. Thus, in Cebuano, we say it's Sinulog.
That's a little bit of education, let's now proceed to the main content.
STEEMIT INVADING SINULOG!
Yep! The long awaited event came true last Sunday, January 21, 2018. The Grandest festival being invaded by the Grandest community, SteemIt!
I would like to do this in sequence but not in specific details because I have a lot of pictures that I want to share but unfortunately it might take a while to upload them all and my post might be full of pictures instead of details.
Just lettin' you know! :D
At first, we woke up very early and waited for our friends who are also new to Steemit. The original plan was to help setting up the venue for SteemIt but unfortunately, while we were already at the door(of our house) ready to go out, it rained so hard. It was 6:30 AM back then, we went out by almost 10 AM. And by the time when we went out to the main road, there were also a lot of people and the every jeepney(PUV) was full. So we decided to get a taxi instead.
I was not able to document from the start up until when we rode a cab.
Even getting a cab did not go very well because you needed to grab the taxi door first from all the people who were also waiting. Fortunately, after a few minutes, we got ourselves a cab. Yay!
The road to our destination was unavailable for vehicles which left us to walk for a few kilometers from Ayala Malls to USC Main Campus.
But walking was one of my favorite exercises and we also had fun during our trip going to the @Steemph.cebu booth and I was able to capture a lot of photos.
Even though we just arrived at the road where vehicles were not allowed already, you can see here how huge the crowd was:
And because the roads were closed for vehicles, a lot of stalls opened for the event.
"Henna" or temporary tattoo
Food stalls and mini souvenir shops
There are even hair sprays
These are just some of the many stalls. There were a lot of shops that opened during the event that's why if you go to the grandest festival here at the Queen City of the South, I assure you, you will really have a variety of choices for your souvenirs.
Along the way, we encountered the Sinulog Parade and there were different celebrities, advertisements, and images of Sto. Niño.
Here are some of the photos:
Next up is our journey going to the booth. We had a hard time reaching our destination because of the crowd. We even had to squeeze in just to pass through the large crowd.
When I say "squeeze", I say pushing your way out with a bit of force to push yourself out from the crowd.
Imagine you to go through all of these crowd with a thin passage.
Although we've been through the hard way, we still reached the @steemph.cebu booth. We had a lot of fun and met new people. The booth had different services that were given like hair braiding,
Free Henna for Steemians,
And the steemians helping each other and sharing ideas,
And ofcourse the group pictures,
@jassennessaj, @smaeunabs, and @ybanezkim26
So later that afternoon around 4pm, we went home and walked again for a few kilometers from the SteemIt Booth which is located at USC Main Campus all the way to SM Cebu.
Yep! It took awhile for us to get home. Almost 2 hours of walk then 30 mins of traffic.
We needed to squeeze our way out again. I mean look at this crowd! Haha!
And yep! I lied. This post is full of pictures after all. Haha!
I can't really help it. I love pictures more than words. And as we know it, pictures can have a lot of words in it as well.
*meh trying to find an excuse. lol!
But the overall experience of SteemNulog was very exciting and fun! And this may even be an understatement. Haha!
Imagine having my first experience in Sinulog thanks to SteemIt, meeting new friends, and even exploring new stuff!
I think that would be all for now. There is a next meet-up anyway so probably I'll be posting a week late again. Haha!
Like how I'm 5 days late in posting this for this event. Hahaha!
