I have a gold foil Chromatic Dragon legend card - Sell are Hold?
Good morning Steemit,
Most will have heard about these Steem Monsters by now with have a rough idea what they are all about. Basically they are Steem's answer to Ethereums crypto kitty's with the main difference being it is a card game instead of virtual pets.
The reason for this post is because i have a dailima. I have been getting into these Steem Monsters and buying 10 packs every night for the last 8-9 days which good results. 2 nights ago i got a ' Chromatic Dragon' gold foil card, i near crapped my panties because i knew this was a super rare card. After staring at the the screen for a few seconds to make sure it was what i thought it was, I left my other packs unopened and handed to the secondary market to see it value. The lowest price someone else was selling for was $1249........ding ding ding....JACKPOT!!!!
It was around 1am and i had discord opened, so i screenshot the pack opening and banged it up on the SteemMonsters server. There were lots of members online in the channel but only one person commented, i thought that was strange because i thought this was a super hard card to get. Maybe the convo about summoners was deep. So i spoke with my buddy @thedamus and he gave a few words of wisdom with his thoughts, then i made a quick post and headed to bed happy as a pig in shit.
I wake up yesterday and obliviously checked the Steem Monsters website first thing the see a few more had been added to bring the lowest priced down to $1150. Nothing wrong with that i thought, just a transfer between a non hodler and a hodler. I was speaking very briefly with @mattclarke and decided that i was gonna hold it for a few weeks until the live game had a release date which is reported to be a few weeks ago. I was waiting on a package and spent most of the morning on Steemit were my post got a few comments. All positive comments telling me to hodl until the actual game goes live. There were a few of my stacker buddys from #steemsilvergold telling me to sell up and get some silver are gold, someone told me that @goldmatters was offering up some mene for gold legends. I thought to myself, nahh im gonna hold it and sell it for $3-5000 in a few months.
Last night, i had a few hours and thought to myself. Im gonna do a little research into Steem Monsters outside of Steemit and Discord to see what the real hype was. I have 2 screens so was running a dtube video interview on one about gameplay from the creator and using google on the other. My results were pretty shocking, there is no hype! There was a bunch of steemit links and a few articles wrote back in May/June. Next a searched 'steem monster forums' and the results came back a few dead reddit and1 bitcointalk threads. Next i went onto peakmonsters.com to see what stats they could offer me and lastly i went to visit the most up to date daily gold legend post done by @tufkat. I found out that there are around 750k cards released so far which is half the 1.5 million they plan to start with. There are currently 19 gold foil Chiromatic dragons out there, 7 are for sale on Steem Monsters market place with the lowest priced being $1149. I can also see that 5 have sold in the past month. This is around the time the 1 hour 20 minute dtube interview ended.
In the dtube interview, the creator talks about gameplay and what the different powers and stats were. It was a very good interview and easy to understand, he seemed to have known that most people watching would not be card gamers and broke everything down very well. So, it sounds to me like we build teams with our cards and then battle in order of the fastest to the slowest cards. To stop people from building super teams and reusing them over and over to always win , there will be boost's/powers added and removed on a weekly basis to cards as part of the social media plan and also to stop people from monopolizing the game. Everything sounds cool but i also heard them talk about new cards being released and he was very honest when he said expect the value to go down. Now, im not sure if he was talking about card dollar value are card fighting power value. To me being a non gamer both are related. It was a good interview and i picked up a few things from the cows month i would not have read on Steemit.
So to conclude and based on my very basic research, i can see that the only hype surrounding Steem Monsters is based on Steemit and Discord. Outside of these 2 platforms, nobody is talking about it. I can see from the peakmonsters site that boost pack sales are not through the roof, maybe 10-15 unique sales per hour. I mean good but not great. I can also view live sales and you can scroll through hours of secondary market sales without seeing a transaction for over $10, nevermind $1000+ and there are new cards planned to be all sale by the end of this year. My final conclusion is sell it and take the profit are take a $1100 dollar gamble. I believe that the risk for me has increased as there is no as much hype outside of Steemit.
So this is my dailima, Sell are Hodl?
Selling right now would be no fast process, it might take a few days if im lucky. I could bang it up for $1100 and cross my fingers nobody comes in under me. The fruits of this would be.......
Holding it for a while could pay off big time. If Steem Monsters as able to pick up some real hype outside of Steemit, then a gold foil alpha dragon legend card could be worth $20k in a year are two. Holdng it also means, i gotta go through the pain of watching the value go up and down. It's priced at $1150 today but there has only been 1 sell over $1000 and in fact the very last sold one for $690. If i do hold it and the game goes viral, i could sell it in 6-12 months for a full BTC and at the end of the day, we're all after BTC.
For now, im gonna play it cool and just watch the secondary market for a few days. I wonna see what happens after a few sell. I will continue to buy my 10 booster packs everyday as i look forward to learning adn playing the game but $1100 is alot for one card and it might be better spread out. I also have an epic gold card for around $50 and a few rare golds but no plans to sell any of those. They are for playing :)
..
SELL.... SELL.... SELL.....
A bird in the hand is worth two in the Bush, or so they say.
This is how I can guarantee a return - sell your card for $1100, buy $1000 worth of silver and watch that go up and up and up.
"what about the other $100" I hear you say. Well take the wife out you tight fucker and reap the rewards she offers ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I disagree with your conclusion, It's a firm hodl from me; but taking the missus out is always a good idea.
I'm sure my outlook might change should I be the one holding the cards, but Im still firmly sat on the "I'm not opening up that can of worms" methodology.
I may regret it, I may not. 😱😱😱😱
The secondary market place for these cards is very slow. Im afraid if i listed at $1100, it will just sit there until somebody sells one cheaper driving the price down. Im seeing that 19 are out there, 7 are for sale. I assuming anyone that buys any of these cards will be a hodl'er basically taking them off the market. I will sell it for sure but when, i dont no.
ps. How you know im a tight fucker, you been speaking to my misses? Anniversary tomorrow, she's getting an samsung S9 and im getting a card and a box of mint chocolate. That $100 would get me x6 oz britannia's, a 1/4 oz libertad, a loaf of bread and a few golf ball penny bubblegum's :) Oh wait, its only 100 dollars, not pounds lmfao
Can I be on your team :-D!? Hahah I just checked and I don't have that many good cards but I do have some that are already leveled up.
I was leveling mine up and have stopped the past couple of nights. I figure i can always do it later and read somewhere that as are alpha cards, you could go for good resell money. I guess it depends wether you are looking to play are not.
Thanks for checking out my post, :)
Welcome to the club - I'm holding mine :)
You holding it for 91days?
That really is quite a dilemma that you're in, @silverstackeruk. 😉 There is a third option possible that you could consider. Apparently there are plans afoot to make it possible to delegate #steemmonster cards, so rather than just SELL or HODL, you could HIRE your Gold Foil Chromatic Dragon out to someone, and make money from it that way. From what I understand, this is something that @nealmcspadden has been working towards. You might like to seek out Neal for some advice on this.
ohhhhhhh, i like that. I like the sound of that
Having your cake and eating it too would suit me. You've gave me something to research. Thank you for sharing that with me.
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
