Splinterlands: Runi on the Battlefield

To add on the almost countless amount of items delivered from the development team before the year ended, Splinterlands actually got our Runi ready for the battlefield only a couple weeks after the mint had ended. While I still think it would have been better to make available as the minting process was ongoing, it was well worth the wait. I think that they may have gotten more demand for the minting if they had more immediate utility. However, now Runi will be that much more scarce in the future!

This latest development continues to show how unique the Splinterlands ecosystem is as the developers continue to add functionality across Blockchains. Runi live on the Ethereum layer 1 Chain but can be stake via a smart contract which then ties it to our accounts on HIVE. I am amazed how they have been able to make it quite seamless via the normal wallet connections already in place for many protocols. It is also a one and done process which makes it even easier that many other protocols I have been a part of.

While it costs some ETH GAS Fees to process, those have come down quite a bit as of late so it was not as bad as some thought it would be to manage our Runi. I am surprised there is not more talk on how well this went and how amazing it is to use the asset indefinitely on the HIVE blockchain due to its free nature of transactions (without going down the rabbit hole of Resource Credits). This is a lost opportunity to demonstrate not only the innovation of Splinterlands but the utility of the HIVE Blockchain and the potential it has for Web3 development. Not sure what can change that but it is why I continue to hold my assets in HIVE as well.

In terms of the card itself, I have found it pretty useful to pair with other opportunity monsters. With the recent release of the new Legendary Summoner Possibilus the Wise, it brings an interesting meta for some rulesets. I also enjoy the rebirth ability and hope it remains unique to Runi as the asset should remain unique for some time. Since I FOMO'd into having an Army of Runi, I hope it proves to be one of the hidden diamonds of the ecosystem as it evolves with future game features like Land!
