howdy there makinstuff! whos the "we" who will be running these big operations, commercial growers? well you may be learning from someone else but you still have to set it all up.
I thought this system was supposed to be for an emergency, sustainable food supply but you gotta keep the fish fed which I don't know what they need so that would be hard and then you wouldn't have power if the grid was down. so I guess this isn't a survival situation type of system.
Good points @janton It is in one way...... the tilapia are omnivores and will eat black soilder fly larvae and duckweed. There are other things they can eat as well such as spirulina algae that can grow anywhere in the world. If you had a loss of power, yes this system would be a bit difficult to keep going. That's why I'm creating the Surthrival Trailer to house a mini micro-grid along with a food system like this. Yes it would be more work to get to a point of completely closed loop, but it is possible to grow all your inputs locally to provide feed for the fish.

now that's what it would take if the grid goes down, that's brilliant and great project to post about!
