As the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency continues to advance online, sports teams are beginning to adopt the use of cryptocurrencies and digital tokens to give fans access to exclusive content.
In 2014, NBA Sacramento Kings team began accepting Bitcoin as a ticket payment and was considered the first in the sports industry.
Recently some of the biggest football teams in Europe, PSG, Juventus, West Ham and Rome have adopted a blockchain solution to offers fans a variety of token utilities from blockchain fan engagement platform Socios.
Portuguese football club Benfica is another example, they began accepting cryptocurrency payment for tickets and merchandise this year, through the cryptocurrency platform Utrust.
And this is just the begin of a new era!
