Steemit Ultimate Challenge 8 Weeks - Week #4
Steemit was something that, in addition to changing my life, changed my way of being and seeing things in the environment I live. As you may know, in the country where I live (Venezuela), a simple SBD can make an incredible difference in my lifestyle and sometimes my family's.
My mother is a doctor, and my father is a civil engineer, both with long years of experience and their respective postgraduate degrees. But even then, when you turn the amount of money they earn to SBD or USD, it is almost nothing. The problem that accompanies that is that in this country the prices of things are based on the price of the dollar. It costs a lot to get dollars, but the prices of the places are dollarized and it is not enough to buy anything. So, here came my role as a son who managed to get money through the internet and help certain things in my house like repairs of cars that were stopped for lack of spare parts, and buying meat and things for the house. Like it wasn’t enough, I can also afford the rent of the apartment where I have to stay to go to the university in another state while I study my fourth year of medicine. I was already almost independent, since at age 22 I had been living alone in an apartment for four years. But Steemit allowed me an incredible level of economic independence and a way to deal with serious problems in a way that I enjoy doing posts.
Beyond seeing the face of my parents a little more carefree every day for the economic situation of the family, Steemit changed my way of thinking and this, however dumb it sounds, is what I love most about having stumbled upon this community.
I was a boy who really did not expect much more than what could happen. I was living in a country where there was a civil war and the daily news was of the murdered, wounded, and captured in the protests. Known people sometimes, because we were part of the Protestants. I do not know how healthy it is that at 21 years old you are fleeing from shots and tear gas, trying not to die while fighting for a better future for your country. While I was sleeping and walking through the streets I heard the detonations of the rifles of the national guard, sometimes real, sometimes in my mind. In my opinion it is something that changed my life, and probably for the better in the future, but it is something that you do not forget.
Inconstancy in the university, disappointment because everything you do will not work in this country of dictatorship ruled by murderers. A very abstract world is what I can say.
Steemit made me focus all the negative feelings onto one thing: to move on. It changed the way I distributed my time. I stopped watching news and I began to read posts, to be interested in what the world is and the splendid things that are in it. Poetry, photography, writing stories, all the effort paid in a fair way (most of the time, haha) and also allowed me to acquire these activities as hobbies and take them to different and more advanced styles. Learning while I got away from the bad.
Nights of alcohol and cigarettes, locked in my house with my friends without going out for fear of being kidnapped or stolen became Steemit nights, along with @steemedchitty and other partners concentrating on taking life in a more optimistic way.
Talking to people from other countries who show interest in your life and learning about theirs is something that I had not achieved before in a way as perfect as Steemit. I remember a conversation I had once with @egregorian in the comments that made me see that there are people in the world equal to me in another reality completely different at this very moment, with different situations and things that happen to our surroundings. But at the end of everything, we are the same humans in ups and downs of different emotions.
As if that were not enough, another thing that Steemit introduced to my life was the blockchain. Interesting, incredible or... how I’ll become a millionaire? That's what we all hope, but having it at my fingertips is something that motivates me to be someone bigger every day so I can develop in the world of cryptocurrencies in an efficient and successful way for my life and my future. I do not see it as just imaginary coins, they are a miraculous form of effort that can fluctuate at times but in the end, they are worth it
The minimum wage in Venezuela is equivalent to more or less 800,000 BsF, that is 1 SBD. However, even a few cents of SBD are a considerable amount of money, since the prices of things are based more or less on the dollar as I had already told you. One Coca-Cola of two liters costs 140,000, almost 1/4 of one SBD. But it is still enough with respect to what people earn here since not everyone receives income through Steemit or through dollars.
Steemit has become something that motivates me to get ahead every day, to fight for my future and to study to graduate as soon as possible in medicine and to be able to emigrate. In addition, I count on Steemit because it is something that lets me be myself day by day through letters that I write in my posts. You never know what's good until you try, and I thank Steemit for letting me know that poetry, writing, and photography are an escape from the world I'm involved in and a possible path to success.
Family, friends, cars, food, personal development, my way of thinking… Everything is influenced by Steemit, and that’s something I’ll never be thankful enough for. And the best of all, this is just the beginning. It’s inspiring to know that I’ll meet a lot of different people every day just sitting at my laptop, talking about what I like and what I really think is quality content. Thanks Steemit!
