POETRY | DAY 27 | Suburban Nightmare (Headlines #1)

Suburban Nightmare (Headlines #1), poetry by @naquoya.

Day 27 of 100 for @d-pend's Poetry Challenge

Suburban Nightmare (Headlines #1)

Suburban brick offering sheltered hope
from the long arm that proceeds and disturbs,
though it says protect and serve.
Like an Orwellian nightmare,
where language is at best irrelevant
and at worst something to discard with brutal force.
Like the disabled man in the suburban refuge
trying to cope as best he can
when even the insides of his head make little sense.
So how then to make sense of the outside of it?

Why do some torment the helpless?
Is it psychopathy masquerading as protection,
in the form of insistence upon following their rules?
The demands to respect an authority that bathes in its own
vile stench of insanity and hatred.
While true peace is shattered and fear invades;
While the disabled man is thrown to the ground,
beat up and hosed down,
laughed at and disgraced.
Even filmed for a reminder of the conquest.

This is the news that greets me today.
In a world that has enough evil lurking in shadows.
Sometimes that evil walks out into the light
without fear of consequences
and spits in the face of every man and every woman
who actually care about the state of the world.

It happens all the time, I am lead to believe.
I have no trouble believing that
as I am blessed with a cynical attitude towards
those who would seek to rule over others,
even if they call it a public service,
or doing the greater good.
Because six baton blows to the leg of a disabled man
minding his own business
in his own house
never disturbed my peace.

Thank you, for calling it for what it is & distancing yourself from the daily madness. Not in our names...

♥️🕊💫

Sometimes the silent activist inside is awoken from too much external madness. Not in our names indeed.

That's how I felt this morning reading this tragic headline: "Police fatally shot a black man, mistaking pipe for a gun". Enough is too much, already, I thought, and shared a small post about my thoughts...

Wow, you nailed it on the head, thumbs up.

Thank you.

Apparently that evil is universal. We also suffer the same. Greetings.

Yes, a dark aspect of human nature. All nations and cultures have that in common - the evil that seeks to hurt good people.

Oh my God! How much truth your poem contains, brother @naquoya. Blessings!

Thank you. Sometimes it just has to be said.

The world we live in. The current event poetry is a nice way to express the feelings of the times .
I like this line write here
“when even the insides of his head make little sense.

Yes, I think poetry can be a great way to express a view of the state of the world, good or bad. Thanks for your comment.

powerful poem, especially considering the context nowadays. i really love that last line. I feel that is the attitude of so many people these days, for better or worse. A thing might be terrible, but they won't seek action so long as it doesn't directly affect them. Thanks for sharing!

It's like we have been slowly trained to turn a blind eye, but this story rattled me significantly. I can't fathom the attitude of those who would seek to behave in this manner, especially whilst telling themselves it was completely justified. This poem was my small attempt at saying that I do not support this type of behaviour, although it leaves me feeling like I haven't done enough.

AMEN

Thanks for your understanding.

Oppression is ever present in this life time. No matter where you go or where you are there is always that one person who wants to look down on other people.

Unfortunately here it is a handful of people, pretending they're helping the rest of us. But I do get what you are saying.
