In my Syrian Shoes (Day 7 Poem)

in #steemitschoolpoetry7 years ago (edited)

Good day #Steem friends and competitors! This is day 7/100 days of poetry. Still a long way to go. In this poem, I put myself in the shoes of a Syrian who supposedly believes in God and remembers their faith in times of war. I think most Syrians are Muslim however I can’t write an arabic poem heheh so here goes, enjoy!

They ask ‘where is God when the innocent are dying?’
The world mocks at Thee as if they’ve ever known Thee.
‘Where is his so called justice and love divine’ they say,
‘when innocent children are dying for the sins of those on high thrones and yet short of heart?’

And who can answer these questions but Jehovah?
If men were made a little lower than angels then how shall we expect to have more knowledge than angels?
And why is Satan hidden from the conversation when we are treated the worth of fake necklaces and bangles?

Only You can avenge us from the terror of their heartless torsos,
those who rest their heads on pillows of cash and have their soldiers line up in braided cornrows,
they have sacrificed our peace for pride
and the smoke of nuclear artillery is the incense they condone.

My mother sleeps less than a soldier and my siblings rest their heads on pillows of stone,
The good pillows are upstairs, but it’s too suicidal to go above the ground.
We use to rest in peace but now would be lucky not to rest in pieces,
Trust and positivity are two different and the latter is changed by disappointment; dueces.

I encourage those that have the gift and the interest to join in —> https://steemit.com/steemitschool/@d-pend/announcing-the-steemit-school-poetry-100-day-challenge and lets expand the depth of our poetic abilities and awesome interactions with the vocabs. Hit it up with @d-pend for more info.
The competition is still on its early days,
but for certain it’s getting tougher as people improve their skills through thought and daily practise. This has been evident in many poems by others. Lets keep it up!

Woa, that is suppose to be ‘in braided cornrows’. Will correct that soon. Hahaha, the ‘avengers’. Almost thought they were the power puff girls

Interesting to know about the braided cornrows. Going to share that with my friends.

You googled it yet? That’s how you know that not every thread of an African woman’s hair is real.

I didn't google it. Was going to take your word for it.

I like that too. It's supposed to be a mashup.
