SteemitPhotoChallenge #30 ~ Flowers (All Entries)

Hello my friends!

I've been busy lately and that's why I haven't been posting.

Now, there's so many things that I have to share with You my dear Steemians because my boyfriend ( @crokangaroo ) an I have been working on a couple of our gardening projects, we've started to plant seedlings and I've been painting a lot lately.

For now I would like to show You these tree pictures of Nature's beautiful crations: Flowers!

Entry No.1: Orange Lily (lat. Lilium candidum)

Orange Lily.jpg

The Lily Flower is often associated with the story of Hera and Zeus. According to the myth, Zeus wanted baby Hercules to drink the milk of Hera, his wife. Because Hercules was born of another woman, Hera disagreed. Zeus brought Hercules to Hera to drink her milk while she was sleeping, but she awoke and pushed him away. The drops of milk that spilled on the ground grew into lilies.

Lily Meaning:

Lilies most commonly mean devotion or purity, though meaning can vary by type of lily, culture, and color.
~Because of the Greek myth of Hera and Zeus, lilies are associated with rebirth and motherhood.
~In China, lilies are used in weddings because they are tied to 100 years of love. They are also tied to good luck.
~Assyrians and Babylonians associated lilies with the Goddess of Fertility, Ishtar.
~Christians associated lilies, especially Madonna lilies, with the Virgin Mary.

Every color of Lily's have I'ts individual meaning and this orange (tiger) liliy symbolize confidence, pride, and wealth.

Source of this informations and more details You can find here.

I've taken this photo last summer in my village. My neighbour has these beautiful Lilys!
They are not easy to replant, but I will try this season!

Entry No.2: Passion Flower (lat. Passiflora caerulea)

Pasiflora.jpg

The Passion fruit is a vigorous, climbing vine that clings by tendrils to almost any support. It can grow 15 to 20 ft per year once established and must have strong support. It is a symbol of Jesus Christ’s Passion and Cross. (source)

It belongs to a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants. The Passion Flowers have a unique structure, which in most cases requires a large bee to effectively pollinate. (source)

This picture was taken last autumn (so few months ago) in my yard! Thanks mom because you grew these beautiful stunning Flower plant!

Entry No.3: Houseleek (lat. Sempervivum tectorum)

Pazikuca.jpg

This plant is my favourite healing plant for earache. It's leaves have the gelly supstance that is something like aloe vera.

It was in high esteem among the Romans, who grew it in vases before their houses. The generic name Sempervivum, from the Latin semper (always) and vivo (I live), refers to its retention of vitality under almost all conditions, and the specific name tectorum bears witness to its usual place of growth - a roof.

This species will grow on rock-work, as well as on a roof, flourishing better than on ordinary ground. When once fixed, it will spread fast by means of its offsets. It may easily be made to cover the whole roof of a building, whether of tiles, thatch or wood, by sticking the offsets on with a little earth.

Medicinal Action and Uses:

Refrigerant, astringent, diuretic. In rural districts, the bruised leaves of the fresh plant, or its juice, are often applied as a poultice to burns, scalds, contusions, scrofulous ulcers, and in inflammatory conditions of the skin generally, giving immediate relief. If the juice be mixed with clarified lard and applied to an inflamed surface, the inflammation is quickly reduced.

It can be used in many skin diseases. Some old authorities recommend mixing the juice with cream.

With honey, the juice has been used to assuage the soreness and ulcerated condition of the mouth in thrush, the mixture being used with a hair pencil. (source)

So Yes, this plant is a real fighter, surviving all conditions and a really great healing plant too. I love it and deffinitly recomend as a must in every home!

I hope You like my photos and the stories behind every Flower.

Peace, Love and Health to all of You!

Namaste
