Learning with Memory Techniques: The Periodic Table of Elements (81-85)
This is an easy way to learn Thallium, Lead, Bismuth, Polonium and Astatine. Learning with memory techniques is much easier than rote repetition. Especially when the images are already layed out to you in a clear and intuitive way. We will cover five elements per post with special training images for all elements and numbers. Please check out our other episodes for more elements.
Each element comes with a special training image. These contain the element number, a common application, a phonetically similar image for the name and the element symbol. The color of each training image indicates the element category.
To memorize all elements by number we will use the Visual Major System to encode numbers into images. Please make sure you understand its principles.
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 1 = T or D. With that we can create the word BOT. The eightyfirst element Thallium sounds like talon. This element is used for rat poison.
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 2 = N. With that we can create the word BONE. The eightysecond element Lead is spelled like a goose leading a group of geese. The element is used for weight belts for divers.
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 3 = M. With that we can create the word BEAM. The eightythird element Bismuth sounds a little bit like beast and we can imagine a lion. The element is used for sprinkler systems.
Come up with your own story or ask your students to that.
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 4 = F or V. With that we can create the word Beef. The eightyfourth element Polonium sounds like Polo. The element is was used for batteries in the lunar rover.
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 5 = S or Z. With that we can create the word Peas. The eightyfifth element Astatine sounds a bit like pasta. The element is radioactive and has little use in the industry. Most elements from here on are like that. You can imagine their stories all visually radiating.
All training images are property of Thinkkniht UG. They can be used for educational purposes in Schools and Universities. You can get the set with 50 different Visual Major System images from 0-9 for free in English and German.

Elements Legend
Each element comes with a special training image. These contain the element number, a common application, a phonetically similar image for the name and the element symbol. The color of each training image indicates the element category.
The Major System for Numbers
To memorize all elements by number we will use the Visual Major System to encode numbers into images. Please make sure you understand its principles.
- We encode digits into consonants
- We pair the letters with phonetically similar consonants
- Vowels are free to create words
- Below on the graphic are the ten main letters
76. Osmium
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 1 = T or D. With that we can create the word BOT. The eightyfirst element Thallium sounds like talon. This element is used for rat poison.
A futuristic bot is collecting talons by poisoning bird of prey with rat poison.
82. Lead
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 2 = N. With that we can create the word BONE. The eightysecond element Lead is spelled like a goose leading a group of geese. The element is used for weight belts for divers.
The goose in the lead is wearing a scary bone skull carries a heavy weight belt to train its muscles. Of course everything is way to big and it looks very silly.
83. Bismuth
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 3 = M. With that we can create the word BEAM. The eightythird element Bismuth sounds a little bit like beast and we can imagine a lion. The element is used for sprinkler systems.
A beam of light heats the beast in its eye and it jumps up and breaks the sprinkler system which now starts a flood.
84. Polonium
In the Visual Major System 8 = B or P and 4 = F or V. With that we can create the word Beef. The eightyfourth element Polonium sounds like Polo. The element is was used for batteries in the lunar rover.
85. Astatine

Great, thank you!
You are welcome. Bist du Deutscher?
Ja, das bin ich. Und Du?
Wir sind vier Deutsche bei Thinkkniht. Ich (@flauwy) bin aber der einzige der auf Steemit schreibt von uns.
Interesting post, I really like this kind of postings.
I will always wait for something new from you. thank you
Me too :)
