Arithmetic Trick: Multiplying by 4

in #steemiteducation7 years ago

Hi all steemian friends, on this occasion, I would like to share another interesting basic trick of arithmetic, especially for students who want to master arithmetic. This trick is named as Multiplying by 4.

Have you ever noticed that a pack of playing cards consists of 4 types of cards, clubs (♣), diamonds (♦), hearts (♥) and spades (♠). Each card type is 13 cards: ace, two, three, and so on. If a pack of cards consists of four types of cards and each type there are 13 cards, how many cards are there? (Joker cards are not counted). To find out the answer, we must multiply 13 x 4.

Here's the ways!

To obtain the result of multiplication by 4, simplify the way, ie multiply by 2 that numbers. Then, the result multiplied by 2 again. Let's try this trick to find out the answer from the above problem.

Let's try with another example!

Always remember! To practice this trick, try to duplicate every number we find. If we find the number 36 in a street, duplicate that number in our mind. If we find the number 92 on the math test, duplicate also the number. After some time, we certainly have no difficulty in case of multiplication by 4.

Let's practice again!

This is all about my explanation for this basic arithmetic trick, follow my post to get other arithmetic tricks, that I will explain in my next post. Hopefully, this article useful for me personally and for you all.

In my classroom we say:

"double and double again"

very simple.

Yup, "double and double again". When we use this simple way in multiplying case, we will get the answer easier. Thanks a lot for visiting my post @jmcmeekin
