Arithmetic Trick: Multiplying by 10 and 100

in #steemiteducation7 years ago

Hi all steemian friends, on this occasion, I would like to share another interesting basic trick of arithmetic, especially for students who want to master arithmetic. This trick is named as Multiplying by 10 and 100.

Today is your sister's tenth birthday. Mom also made a birthday cake on which was given a candle a number of months during his life. As usual, he blew out the candles on his birthday cake. You can imagine "how crazy is it that your little sister should blow out the candles one by one according to the number of months during her life" How many candles should be blown? To find out the answer, we must multiply 12 x 10.

Here's the ways!

This trick is the easiest trick among other tricks. To multiply a number by 10, just add 0 behind that number. So, to get the result of a 12 x 10 multiplication, simply add 0 behind the number 12, so the result is 120. Is it clear? Now, how many candles to blow out if the number of candles is based on the number of days until your sister's birthday? Say if the number of days in a year is 365, we must multiply 365 x 10. Let's try with the following calculations.

What if we multiply a decimal number by 10? We will get the answer by simply moving the comma one place to the right.

Let's try with another example!

Always remember! What if we want to multiply a number by 100? The answer is easy, we simply add two zeros behind the number. So, 12 x 100 equals 1,200. If we multiply the decimal number by 100, move the comma two places to the right. So 3.14 x 100 equals 314.

Let's practice again!

This is all about my explanation for this basic arithmetic trick, follow my post to get other arithmetic tricks, that I will explain in my next post. Hopefully, this article useful for me personally and for you all.

I predict that one of your later posts will have the division case (with moving the decimal place to the left).

Nice, I will share this case in one of my next posts. Thanks for visiting my post @dkmathstats

Please teach vedic maths tricks too

I will share this mental math trick one day. But it was still the basic. I want to present everything from easy tricks to difficult one. So that we can easily understand all the tricks associated with arithmetic and also other mental mathematics. Thanks for your attention buddy.
