Why is it important to find out what your child is good at?
Why is it important to find out what your child is good at?
We are living in an age absolutely different from the one I grew up in.
We became teachers, policeman and nurses as well as secretaries. Those were our parents choices and we just did it.
In those days we were taught that if you have a job, like it or not just be tankful and do it.
Things have changed so much with new technology. Children today have up to 5 or 6 different jobs as they succeed in what they love.
They move from one firm to another and it is not wrong.
It is so important to be happy at what you are doing.
We all just have one life. If we do not use it to the best of our ability, we might as well become beggars and do nothing.
I think, and this is just my opinion that every child has certain abilities. It might not be what we think is academically strong but we are wrong.
There are children who are able to do things that I will never be able to do as it is not what I am interested in.
It is time that we decide to figure out what will make this child happy for the rest of his life, and that can only be when he or she does something they love.
We are all so wrong to think that it has to be a professional job. There are children, like one of my grandsons, and he is academically strong that is just not interested in any of those professional jobs.
He has the ability to take something apart put it together again just by instinct.
My wife has a problem that our only computer gets warm. We have tried everything.
He said let me see. Now I am talking about a child of 13 years old. He took an old hairdryer and made her a little fan that she puts next to the computer and, now what, no more problems.
This is just something very small he has done but he comes up with ideas for things that break that I think most people would never think of.
He is really very handy, if something happens you can hear everyone calling him, because they know whatever it is he will find a way to fix it.
Now just because he loves working with his hands, this does not just make him a blue collar worker. He is very bright but he loves doing things like that.
Why do we all feel that the best job for our children will be a professional one? I am telling you if he has the chance he will get very far in life by doing what he loves.
There are many children like him, and they might not always be top of their class but they are definitely good at something.
I had one of my children at school, which started on the vegetable garden. He loved it so much that he later became the town’s gardener and the town council could not believe what he did with the parks and streets. Was he happy very? He later married a doctor and they have wonderful children, but one thing is for sure they will definitely do something they love.
I think we must start looking at the world with new eyes and stop thinking about pension plans, and that type of thing for old age. There are many more ways to see that you are safe when you get old.
Here in South Africa where everyone who worked for the government had a pension plan things are going wrong in the new government as these plans are lost.
They put the pension money in whatever they feel like and suddenly millions or billions are lost. What is going to happen to these people who worked for their pension their whole life? Maybe they did not even enjoy the job they were doing but we were taught stick with it.
So parents please figure out what will make your child happy and do not try to force them into jobs you think they should be doing.
Help them have them tested and see what would make them happy. There might be something you never thought of and the child will enjoy every day that he or she is working.
Happy people make very good workers, and for that reason I am writing this post to parents who have dreams for their children that might not be the child’s dream.
The world has become very small with new technology, and most of us have children working in other countries. I know it is hard as we miss them, but if it is what they want, why not.
We have friends who let all their children and they had four do their own thing, and I can assure you they are all happy people and very successful at what they are doing.
Believe me they all come home at some stage and start their own business here back in South Africa as it will always be home. In the mean time they learnt a lot and they now make success of the business here as they have been through all the hardships and mistakes. They chose to do it and persisted that is why they now know what to do.
I really hope you will think about this and have a wonderful day here from the Wild Coast.
this is helpful guide for parents ...sometimes as early as now I am already feeding my son what I want for him when he grow up....the question is, will he be happy or thankful?.. I want him to be happy.
Thanks for this post.
This is so very true and please help him be happy.
What you are describing is very interesting but the world is now full of children's technology now child technology
That is true.
this is an awesome post. Totally agree. The problem with many people who are too afraid to pursue their passion is the uncertainty of veering off well-trodden paths. It takes courage and guts to go against the opinions and ideas of people who meant well for you.
Yes I agree times have changed we must try to help our children.
