4TH GRADE MATH - ROUNDING NUMBERS TO NEAREST MILLION

Rounding Numbers to Nearest Million

In this post we will explore rounding to nearest million. We will start with mid-point strategy but there is another faster method to round numbers to any level. This strategy is explained below:

  1. Underline the desired digit (which needed to be rounded)
  2. Look at the digit right to the underline digit and see if this digit is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 then keep the underlined digit and change all the digits to its right to ZEROS. This is called rounding down.
  3. If the digit right to the underline digit is 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 then add "1" to the underline digit and again change all the digits to its right to ZERO. This is called rounding up.

Below are the activity sheets explaining the concept of rounding. If you want to print them just right click and open them in the new window and these are perfect 8 x 11.5 regular paper sheets.

Once again your post is awesome @mathworksheets. Loved the way u present rounding off the numbers by using number line as well as the other way by keeping digits right to the underlined digit whether it is 0 to 4 or 5 to 9 in mind. Thanks for sharing this valuable post.

You are always welcome @gautam. Thanks for your feedbacks!!

Great worksheet. Best wishes for you.

I always ask myself, why haven't we been taught like this before?

Ha hahaa. There are two basic points to learn - Presentation of the knowledge and secondly the willingness to learn by full attention. Education is teacher learner cooperation at best. As a teacher I try to present my knowledge by putting myself in learners' place.

@mukhtarilyas, the concept of rounding off to millions or other, @mathworksheets use of the days not all sizes apply mid-point rounding. examples of rounding up the payroll, SBD and Bitcoin exchange rates. hehe...
