Are you a Slasher ?
Slasher :
A maniac that slash-cuts people like in the TV series
A person who can not easily answer the question "what do you do for living?"
If you are in the first category, I don't want to know, this is police business.
For the second category, the term slasher is popularized by Marci Alboher American journalist / author / writing instructor / speaker with law background.
She is just what a slasher is.
For me also,the answer is manager / game developer / father / blog writer with mechanical engineering background.
As you add slashes to your job-interest description it gets more and more difficult to give time on each slashed category.
In the "Decision Book" written by Mikael Krogerus and Roman Tschäppeler a very productive advice to prioritize the jobs to be done is given.
The "Project Portfolio Matrix" is the tool to use on deciding what to do next.
It is easy to prepare.
I put Necessity on the X axis and Effort on the Y axis
It can be Time vs. Cost or Effort vs. Self Development, any conflicts you deserve.
Now divide the Necessity axis into three sections.
Must
Things that MUST be done. No escape even if you avoid.
Good to Make
Things that are beneficial and makes you feel good when you make it or become must if you don't make it now.
Luxury
Name tells it. You like to do them very much but it is no use at all.
Next, divide the Effort axis to three sections.
Low
The tasks you perform as routine or very little effort.
High
The tasks that you have to put real effort in it.
Challenging
The tasks that will take too much time and effort even to learn how to do.
As we formed our chart, we open our to-do list and put the tasks.
An example to-do list is as follows:
- Prepare quotation for customer
- Lunch with friend
- Write to Steem
- Build a DIY helicopter
- Help son on homework
When we put them in the chart we can now see the priorities.
Start with the MUST and finish !
Continue with the Good to Make
Make Luxury to award yourself
Stay Positive.
