Steemit - What i have Learnt so Far and i think Newbies should know (Part 1)

I have been a member of steemit for about four months now. Met lots of people, learnt lots of things and grown in my understanding of how the platform works. So, i just want to share some of the knowledge i have gathered.

Steemit is a social network having its own SMT (Smart Media Token) as steem. It's a place where users create and curate content by means of upvotes.
What are these Contents? These are posts in form of articles. Just about anything that is of good quality and can educate the populace. There are many things you can talk about here; life, news, cryptocurrencies, science and technology, general entertainment, music, politics e.t.c but you have to bear the audience in mind when creating posts. You have to put yourself to many questions like Would my write up be easily understood by people? Would what i am posting create an interest in people? Would my readers want to follow me?
The last question is a very important because building your followers is an essential key to becoming a leader or rather a whale here on steemit. Your followers are your number one and true supporters. They are like the pillar and living force of your blog. They always get to see your posts regardless of what tags you use and at most times give most of your upvotes.

How to Gain Followers

Gaining followers on steemit is quite easy and not easy. Easy in the sense that there are working principles to follow and not easy in the sense of applying those principles takes diligence. There are many ways to gain followers on steemit but the most vital and useful amongst all for Newbies are:

  • Creating Articles of Good Quality - This is the first thing we all should learn as steemians. Steemit is not facebook or instagram where you just make some random posts like uploading a selfie and get 500 likes because you are pretty or handsome. You have to put in effort if you really want to earn money and gain followers. Make posts that are interesting. Posts that would make people interested in seeing more of you.
You have to learn how to follow a pattern. There should be something people know you for. If you are a musician, post stuffs on music. An artist? Show us your works. Crpto analyst? Keep analyzing. But this does not mean you can't post stuffs on other topics. Just learn to keep it few. Rather than post random stuffs every time.

  • Using the Right Tags - Tags are what people who aren't your followers use to locate your posts. When a tag is clicked, either from the general tag list or from the bottom of any post, articles carrying that tag would appear.

There is a general list of tag categories at the top left of every steemian's feed page. It is not a must for the tags you use to be among the general tags. Users are allowed to create their own tags. The ones you find there are majorly the most popular. But i would advice you to use one of those tags, so that your post would easily be seen.

When tagging the first tag used is regarded as the main or major tag. The main of this post is #steemiteducation. That's why you are seeing this post as 'faithfulomoy(50) in steemit education'. The normal numbers of tags a post should contain are five.

Learn not to abuse tags. Don't use a tag that is in no way connected to the article you are posting just because it's a popular. A popularly abused tag is the #introduceyourself tag. The only reason i am using it here is because this post is centered at educating Newbies.

  • Interaction - This has to do with making good comments on people's posts and replying comments made on your posts. You won't get people's attention by commenting 'Nice Post' on their post except you already have a relationship with them. Rather make comments that would make the person know you actually took out time to go through the post. Share your thoughts and suggestions on the topic of the article. Drop something that would make the person want to check out your blog. This is where a good blog i.e a blog containing good articles helps out. When the person finds your blog interesting, he or she would want to follow.
It's also important to give replies to every sensible comment made on your post. Don't just post some stuff and go offline till you are ready to make another posts. Interaction is necessary to be a true member of this community.

  • Connecting with Users of Similar Interests - A musician would normally want to follow another good musician who is active.

  • Joining Notable Communities - Joining communities like @uloggers, #steemjet, #steemstem, #stach e.t.c. could increase your visibility on steemit and earn you more votes and followers due to the fact that you will meet users who share same interests with you.

NOTE

In as much as we need to have followers to grow on steemit, it is important to note that not all followers are beneficial. If i randomly follow 5000 persons, i would get at least 500 follow backs. Also, if i go on 1000 posts and beg for follows, i would get at least 100 persons to follow me maybe because i seem to be doing better than them.
You should even understand that not all the people on your followers list are even active.

We should learn to sought for the right followers. People whose presence would yield an impact on your blog. Just be a good steemian and apply the principles mentioned above. I promise you, the results would be evident. You could even have whales following you.

I hope this has been resourceful.

You can upvote, comment and resteem

Thank you.
