SCHIZOPHRENIA: CAUSES, SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS, RISK FACTORS AND TREATMENTS.

WHAT IS SCHIZOPHRENIA.

First of all, I will look at it from the word it self. The word "schizophrenia " can be be gotten from two woCTrds which are 'schizon' which means to divide and 'phrenia'which is related to the phrenic nerve of the brain that contols the mind and thinking capabilities.Therefore schizophrenia is a condition where there is cleft of the Phrenic nerve leading to mental illness.
Schizophrenia can also be referred to as a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks and behaves.

This disorder is not a common mental disorder but it's symptoms are disabling.
A person that is suffering from schizophrenia may seem that they have lost touch of life.

CAUSES.

There is no particular cause of the disease but there are various factors that may be involved.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS.

This disorder begins at the age of around 16 to 30 years. It could also be seen in children but on very rare occasions.

There are three categories that this disorder can be classified which are:

  1. Positive symptoms.
  2. Negative symptoms.
  3. Cognitive symptoms.

In the positive symptoms, chararistics of psychotic behaviours which leads to hallucinations, thought disorder, movement disorder, delusions.

In the negative symptoms, disruption to emotional behavior, reduced speaking will set in. An effect called "flat affect"(reduced expression of emotions via facial expressions and vocal tone.

In the cognitive symptoms, there is poor executive functioning and also lack of paying attention and focusing.

RISK FACTORS.

There are many in which one is at risk of having shizophrenia. It may run in the family but would not necessarily mean it will happen in the next generation. It could also be as a result of environmental factors which may be: malnutrition before birth, psychosocial factors, exposure to viruses, problem at child birth etc.

Also, problems in brain development during child development may lead to risk of this disease. Even at puberty, the brain undergoes some changes and some psychotic symptoms may arise.

TREATMENT.

There is no particular cause of this disease and it cannot be cured. It could be managed and treated. This treatment aim at removing or reducing the symptoms of the disease. In doing this, one can use antipsychotic drugs which may be in the liquid or hard form. It could also be given intravenously through injection.

These persons suffering from schizophrenia need all the support and care they can get from family and friends etc.
