How to Stimulate Your Child's Mind With Shapes and Colors!

in #steemiteducation7 years ago (edited)

The introduction of shapes and colors is one of the most basic forms of science that must be taught, and mastered by the child. Color recognition is closely related to the development of imaginative and artistic abilities in children. One of the main factors in building imagination and creativity is recognizing and mastering colors.

Generally, children are able to recognize color at the age of 3-5 years. At that age he can only mention the color by name, such as blue, red, white and so forth. However, his associative abilities are not correct. You may have taught him the round sun is yellow and the square block is blue, but when asked what color a replacement sun (that you have painted pink) is, he will say yellow, as he is still associating shapes with colors. Children of this age only rely on root memory (basic memory) and memorization when recognizing colors. That is why parents should know how to introduce color to the child properly.

Here are some tips on introducing color to children:

1.) Introducing color to the child will be easier if we associate the color name directly with an object commonly seen. For example, green like grass, white like milk, yellow like the sun, the sky is blue.

2.) Introduce color during play. Never force children to learn while sitting seriously. This will only make the child not feel comfortable, and possibly a little stressed, because the ability to remember and associate the color is still limited. Alternative thinking patterns will evolve through "games" such as mixing multiple colors to produce a new color. They learn both of the color names and how much percentage must be mixed to produce a third color. Fortunately, there are now many play groups that have introduced experimental programs mixing colors. "In this program, the child is free to mix any color. When mixing, he sees for himself what happens when mixing certain colors: red with yellow, red with blue, blue with yellow, and so on."

3.) When introducing color to a baby, introduce bright, striking colors because their vision is not very developed yet.

4.) Speak the correct names of colors in everyday conversations, such as "baby, today you are going to wear a red shirt" and “look at that green car.”

5.) Frequently tuck the concept of color in every conversation. For example, "dear, please get Mama's white clothes on the bed." “Go get the eggs from the gray chicken.” “Please brush your teeth with the blue toothbrush then put on your yellow pajamas.” This way of introducing color to children is very effective.

6.) Parents should be creative in how they introduce color to the child. For example, while enjoying fruit juice, you can saying, "This red watermelon juice is for you, the green avocado juice is for mom." This will stimulate and hone your child's ability to think. In other words, the child is creatively stimulated to find as many answers to a problem or question as possible.

What are the benefits of introducing shapes and colors?

With the introduction of color we have two benefits: checking hearing and vision, and honing these skills. For instance, we can use games. Place yourself and the object to the left of the child and say the color, they will turn their head if their hearing is good. Do the same for the right. Then, for vision, move the toy to the left out of eyesight. If he turns to look for it, his vision is good. In either instance, when he finds the toy, say the color and shape to reinforce the teaching.

Shape recognition learning should also be taught as early as possible. Although the child will not understand the shape of the object he holds, by letting him hold it as you say what it is will reinforce it over time. This simple way will lead him to recognize the different shapes of things.

Hi ashfia, your pos is Very useful.. Thank for your share it, this is a little extra from me If a toddler wrongly mention the color purple to blue, do not blame him. Instead you tell the correct color name in a fun way. Hopefully useful.. ☺

Shapes and colors are one of the easiest, yet most profound things we can teach our children
