Are you feeling unmotivated or procrastinate a lot? Lets get up and do something about it!!
Have you ever had that feeling when you wake up in the morning of O no! I cannot face this day! I am not in the mood for work or school or for that matter anything.
Feeling unmotivated or procrastinating is a normal human feeling and action that we all experience one or other time, but you can do something about it.
You make to do lists and never get around to it. You decide to do things, only to procrastinate because you have no motivation.
If you look at this advice you may roll your eyes and think , O yes sure, it is not that easy, but if you think about it, that is exactly what you must do. Just move forward. And the more you are able to move forward the easier it will get. It is easy to think of something, but not do it. So once you are done with the thinking part, you can move it out of the way and start with the doing part.
There are a few things that you can do to get yourself motivated again.
Stop your negativity and become positive
Usually when we feel unmotivated or we procrastinate, it is because we are in a bad mood or not feeling well. If you have ruled out being sick and it is just a mood you are in, you have to start thinking positive thoughts and become optimistic.
Think about the possibilities that awaits you if you do a certain task and how you can prove to yourself that you can do something.
Take small steps and complete the tasks one at a time and celebrate the ones you are done with. That way you will send out a positive vibe and before long you are in a better mood and just tackling the day.
Reward yourself
Getting a reward is always better than getting a penalty. Set little goals for yourself with rewards in between.
Rewards do not have to be big presents, it can be little things like taking a break, sitting in the garden, playing with the dog, eating an ice cream. Anything that gives you the feeling that you are doing good and you deserve something in return.
If you do not do what you are suppose to, you must also have penalties for yourself.
Be accountable
Tell your friends or family what your plans are - that way you will start feeling guilty if you procrastinate or are unmotivated. You will feel that if they know what your plans are and you do not follow through with it, they will start loosing faith in you.
Get some positive vibes from other people
Do not dwell in the presence of negative people, who always just sees the dark side of life. Surround yourself with people who are kind and positive.
You do not only have to get this from your friends and family, you can find it in a stranger's smile, in a self help book, in a podcast, something on the radio or even just listening to music.
Find what makes you happy and gives you some positive feelings.
Be kind to yourself
Even if you try, you will still have days where you fail in being motivated or where you still procrastinate. Do not be too hard on yourself and turn yourself negative by being mean to yourself.
We tend to forget that we do not only have to be kind to others, but also to ourselves. Take a step back, regroup and move forward again without bullying yourself. Failing or falling is not the end of the world if you get up again and carry on.
Make you failures into a constructive learning curve and determine what you can do to prevent it in future.
Get involved in a friendly competition
Get a friend/colleague at school or work to be in competition with - take note: a friendly competition, just for motivation to finish a task or see who can give the most smiles or who are the most positive in doing their work. Something silly can carry you a long way.
Be grateful for what you have
We tend to concentrate too much on what we do not have, instead of looking at what we have. It does not matter what you are grateful for, but have a look around you and find a few things everyday and that way you will feel more motivated.
