Describing Halloween Characters : A Halloween Lesson Plan
This week @steemiteducation has announced a new steemhomework theme, it is Halloween. Even in my country Halloween celebration is not popular, but as a teacher this homework really challenges me to fulfill it in order the other teachers can use this lesson in their classrooms. So that, I interested in creating a lesson plan on Halloween characters.
Introduction
October has become the icon of Halloween. almost every part in the world celebrates the Halloween. But, should teachers bring Halloween into classroom for whom celebrate it?. Yes, they should because kids love Halloween. So, how do teacher do?. Teacher can use Halloween activities in their lessons. They have to create the activities that fit with their lesson plan to gain learning objective they expect. In this chance, I intend to carry out the activity where students describe the Halloween characters using descriptive word and Present Tense.
Halloween Characters : Pumkins, ghost, Candy, Jack-O-Lantern, Black Cat, Monster, Spider, Haunted Hause, Witch, Dracula, Bat, Frankenstein, Web, Trick or Treater and others.
Basic Language Competence
- Students are familiar with Halloween characters
- Students are able to use descriptive words and familiar with simple present tense to describe the characters
- Students are familiar with descriptive text including definition, structure and language features.
Audience
This Halloween lesson can be applied for 6-8 grade, both EFL or ESL students. For the the lowest and highest level, teacher can adapt the lesson difficulty based on students' abilities.
Activities
- The teacher gives each student a picture of a Halloween character.
- Students do not show the picture they get to other students or tell the character names
- The teacher gives 5-8 minutes for students to prepare themselves to describe the pictures
- Each students has to describe the picture he or she get from teacher using descriptive words including appearance and characteristics of the picture
- After 5-8 minutes, the teacher asks students one by one to describe the Halloween characters.
- Other students pay attention description then guess the character
- The students who can guess the character get 5 points.
- afters all students has described their pictures, teacher announces the students who get highest points.
- The teacher may give reward for the winners
Objective
By describing the Halloween characters, The students are expected to understand and to be able to the apply the descriptive words, simple present tense and other languages features of descriptive text.Using Halloween characters can build students' motivation, interest and creative thinking while learning the descriptive text.
