It has become the habit of many to rest less while putting their health into jeopardy by not having an adequate rest. These categories of people believe that having an adequate sleep or rest can make them poor or rather lazy.

Highlighted below are the importance of sleep and so when you try to over work yourself at night, think of these points.

1.Learning and memory: Sleep helps the brain commit new information to memory through a process called memory consolidation. studies show that people who get adequate sleep perform better at tests and in learning.

2.Mood: Sleep loss may result in irritability, impatience, inability to concentrate, and moodiness. Too little sleep can also leave you too tired to do the things you like to do.

"Kids don’t react the same way to sleep deprivation as adults do," he adds. "Whereas adults get sleepy, kids tend to get hyperactive."

A 2009 study in the journal Pediatrics found that children ages seven and eight who got less than about eight hours of sleep a night were more likely to be hyperactive, inattentive, and impulsive.

5.Reduces Stress: When it comes to our health stress and sleep are nearly one and the same and both can affect cardiovascular health.
"Sleep can definitely reduce levels of stress, and with that people can have better control of their blood pressure," Dr. Jean says. "It’s also believed that sleep effects cholesterol levels, which plays a significant role in heart disease."

6.Cardiovascular health: Serious sleep disorders have been traced to hypertension, increased stress hormone levels, and irregular heartbeat.

7.Disease: Sleep deprivation alters immune function, including the activity of the body's killer cells. Keeping up with sleep may also help fight cancer.
