Gingerbread House Competition 2018 // Lomba Kue Kering Jahe 2018

in #steemitbloggers6 years ago (edited)

Good Morning :)

Hey! How's everyone doing :) No, I was not bored of Steemit, just been busy with life, family, health, and also experiencing a rather strong earthquake and its aftershocks - did you hear Anchorage, Alaska, got hit by the earthquake as well? Yeah we got hit only within hours one another but they had it worse than us, their buildings and roads collapsed and it triggered their tsunami alarm :-/

During my absent, I was busy baking gingerbread cookies for our annual competition in town, and this year, again we brought home a winner ribbon, YAY :D

It's been 3 years in a row now that we participated with vegan gingerbread house AND vegan royal icing, and always came as a winner, so we are pretty stoked.

Hai Teman!

Pa kabar nih? Pada lesu yah aku baca-baca, mulai jenuh nge-blog dikarenakan penghasilan kecil. Sayang sekali deh.

Our 2018's theme was actually an APARTMENT, rather than a house, inspired by our apartment in downtown Montreal (in my opinion), but my husband said it looks more to our apartment in Ottawa hahaha - needless to say, it was one of those cookie cutter apartments then :)

We saw great entries this year, which made us pretty excited to see as more talents were shown.

In 2016 my then 6 years old participated with an igloo which many people questioned why an igloo instead a traditional looking house, he lost and was sad thinking his creation was a bust because it was not "a house". However last year and this year we saw more varieties, so he said he would want to compete again next year :D

I took some pictures from the other participants, but not all as there were a lot and I had to pay attention to my youngest to not touch nothing :P

The houses were displayed at a gallery and there were expensive paintings and whatnot there, so yeah, only some houses I was able to snap the pictures of.

What about where you reside? Any gingerbread competitions you participated in, going to participate, or even just building one or two with the family at home? Share your picture on comment below if so :D

Gingerbread house making is one of our favorite things to do whenever Winter and/or December is here :)

Yes!! Congratulations! That was a phenomenal entry! And it rotates! :)

This is one of the largest competitions I have personally seen! We have a family friendly competition! I loved that they had it in the gallery. All that fun and culture too!

!tip!

thanks aunt Tippy :) yes, one of the judges now knows us too well, our entries have always been rotating ones lol

Wow, lovely! Congrats, they all look amazing and delicious.

How cool is that! You know, I think I've never had gingerbread... It's just not a thing in my country. Last week my son told me he wanted to try gingerbread cookies, and I want to bake them. Now,.building houses and apartments, and igloos out of it... it looks like so much fun

you can use other cookies instead gingerbread for building houses, they would work as well :)

Your gingerbread apartment looks awesome 😆 congratulations on bringing home a winner ribbon 😃

Eep glad you survived the earthquakes 😱

thank you, it was scary for the kids, my oldest ran from living room to my bedroom, panicking and crying - needless to say it was his 1st experience. my youngest was just busy with his ipad, he didnt understand why everyone went crazy haha my husband didnt feel it, he was in the shower. the bed and house shook, and he didnt feel it, too funny.

but yeah, it was only 4.5 while Alaska was 6.6, crazy

thank you, did you see one of the window says "for rent" lol

HOW DID HE NOT FEEL IT XD

Poor oldest, hope it didn't take too long to settle down! Totally get where he's coming from though. We sometimes get tremours on Christmas Island. The last one I remember, I was a young teenager in my room up the other end of the house (it was up the other end because it was added on when my parents extended the house) when everything started vibrating. I walked out to investigate and saw the bookshelf in the lounge near by room door shaking along with all the photos on the walls exactly like in a horror movie XD

I very calmly walked over to the other end of the house where everyone else was (the room my sister and I originally shared that became just hers when I moved to my new room is right next to the parents room so she'd already gone in there) and asked if anyone else had felt that, parents said yep it was a tremour and asked if I was scared. I said I had been startled by it and we hung out in there watching tv and waiting to see if there was anymore. There wasn't which was normal, they usually happen once and then we don't get anymore for years XD

So everything okay in your area then?

as this is an oil town, fracking happens daily and supposedly quakes also happen daily, but since most of the time fracking is deemed safe, the quakes arent strong or visible

this time tho, crazy.

according to the news, about 32 oil/fracking companies in the area are suspended for a month from fracking in the area.

i dont want no more quakes lol

Understandable 😮 long as sinkholes don’t form!

This looks like so much fun! :D
BB <3

come build one too! :D

Howdy there thekitchenfairy! I didn't know they had Gingerbread house making competitions, how dumb of me, they have competitions for everything now! lol. But an apartment gingerbread house? That's getting too radical for me!

There is an international competition that is very famous in Asheville, NC, yearly. This year was their 26th competition, so that's been going on for 26 years, hardly new or "now" ;-)

oh that figures, well it's a good thing I said "how dumb of me" lol. Then you should go and blow them away!

i am nobody compare to those professional, but thank you janton, you are too kind :)

well you have more important priorities anyway!
