Festival of Setting and Rising Sun - Chatth Puja (Evening)
India is a land of many festivals. While many people around the world knows only about Diwali, Holi, and Dushera as India's famous festival, there are many other festivals which are celebrated with utmost joy and enthusiasm in different regions.
Chatth Puja is one of such festival celebrated mostly in Eastern parts of India and in Nepal region. However, slowly the festival for worshiping Lord Sun is gaining popylarity across many others parts. The 4 days festival is considered as one of the most eco friendlier festival. The festival is about worshiping the Setting and Rising Sun by offering ARGH. Today we have offered the Argh to tye setting Sun.
The festival include Bathing, Fasting annd abstaining frim drinking water. There is single worshiper from a family and those who do not able to perform the rituals may contribute to the festival through offering and taking part in the preparation. There are many offering offered to the lord sun, it include, fruits, coconut and other rituals stuff.
The person who is going to perform all the rituals will be in fasting for 3 days. The rituals is very rigorous too and include offering by standing long time in still water till the sun sets and then on next day when sun rises.
It is believed that the ritual of Chhath puja may date back to the ancient Vedic texts, as the Rigveda contains hymns worshiping the Sun god and describes similar rituals. The rituals also find reference in the Sanskrit epic poem Mahābhārata in which Draupadi is depicted as observing similar rites.
The ocassion starts by a prostration march to the nearby pond lake or river. The possession includes carrying heavy baskets of all offering in their head to the wwter front.
Not only this many people offered DUND by reaching the water front through sit ups like marking by completelly streching in sleeping style.
The guy in the pic will reach the venue by sleeping and then standing. Which tooks a lot toll considering he has been on fasting for 3 days.
The Chhath Puja is dedicated to the Sun and his wives Usha and Sangya or Sandhya in order to thank them for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes. Chhath does not involve any idol worship.
The rituals can be performed by male or female. It is believed that worshipping lord Sun will fulfill all the wishes and bring hapiness and prosperity.
Today is we have offered the Argh to the setting Sun. Tomorrow early morning we will again visiting the nearby water body. The possesion may starts early as at 3 AM and the worsgiper will keep standing in the water till sun rises. Will bring you the updated Morning rituals tomorrow morning.
