A little bit of CUBA and a LOT of PRAWNS!
Our Mother City, truly does have some of the most AWESOME restaurants (and venues in general) to discover! And although I have been to this particular restaurant before, one of the things I love about the creative spirits of Cape Town is that they are always reinventing their spaces - so it essentially like a first time visit because everything had changed! - Except maybe for the location lol...
Much like the name, the restaurant and bar have a one of a kind Cuban style theme... This is the bar side of the restaurant which is a lot more informal and has a "beach bar" feel about it.
We had made a booking on the restaurant side for some delicious Cuban flavours! Like I usually do, I got completely LOST in the restaurant itself for about 30 minutes, just snapping up all the gorgeousness of the decor!
When I eventually did make it to the table, it was time for some... VINO!! We took our seats right on perimeter balcony, which is RIGHT next the the railway line and overlooks the harbour! It is SUCH an awesome space to chill in! And the VIEW!!! - It's also pretty darnn cool when the train goes passed and it feels like the entire restaurant is going to collapse from all the vibrations lol
The menu was also something pretty unusual - It was a newspaper! So you open it up and get to read the entire history of the venue, see which "Hollywood" stars have visited, and then decide what it is that you would like to munch! I was pretty impressed - I cannot say I have seen something like that before.
Usually, I will sit staring at the menu for an eternity - unable to decide what to eat! But this time it took me all of 20 second to decide! It really is a complete no-brainer to me when there are prawns involved! I spotted what I wanted IMMEDIATELY! and that was the Paella in a Pan which consists of - fish, calamari, mussels, prawns, chorizo sausage, chicken and peas tossed in spiced rice.
IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD TASTY!!!!!
Dave, much like most men no doubt, opted for a burger..... YAWN - however, admittedly it really did look like a SUPER tasty one!!! It was the Diablo Rum Burger which consists of - A deep fried Cuban roll, two pure sirloin patties, jalapeno, bacon, dill cucumber, mozzarella, tomato, lettuce, sriracha and a rum sauce on the side...
Our wonderful waiter ensured that our wine glasses didn't run low whilst we ate... he was FAB!
After our mains, I decided to take a quick little walk about and capture some more of the stunningly colourful decor!
Dessert had arrived and it was EXCEPTIONALLY DECADENT - and also completely "non traditional" haha! It was the Lindt Cohiba for two which was a chocolate cigar ashtray, with chocolate coated cigars, ice cream, and two shots of Jagermeister, Amarula or 7 year rum.
After getting stuck into that, I really did have doubts that I was ever going to be able to get up from the table and leave
So I thought I would sit back a little longer, enjoy the views, the atmosphere, my full tummy - oh and blow a kiss to all of you!
Until next time...
Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx
