The horrors of the Rohingya crisis

Quick desirable international initiatives

UN Human Rights High Commissioner Jed Rad-al-Hussein has termed Rohingya torture by the army of Myanmar as the example of the textbook case of ethnic cleansing in the Rakhine state. Through this, the UN accepted the extreme human rights violations on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. In fact, persecution of Rohingyas is a crime against humanity. Myanmar's army killed innocent women and children in Rohingyas house, their houses were burnt, girls were taken out and raped. These incidents can not happen in any civilized and democratic country. These crimes should be tried in the international court. The question is, who will take that initiative? Even though the United Nations acknowledges the seriousness of the crimes committed by the Rohingya, the international initiative needs to be judged for the crimes. Unfortunately, there is no sign of it yet. Separately, diplomats of some countries have called the massacre of Rohingya repression as genocide, but the response to the world's biggest forces is not strong enough. Especially in response to the reaction of both neighboring India and China, Myanmar's neighbors. In this reality, the complexity of the Rohingya crisis is not cutting.

The biggest victim of this crisis is Bangladesh. In recent times, according to the UN, more than 300,000 Rohingyas have fled and fled to Myanmar so far. However, the Refugee Relief and Representation Commission of the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management says that after 24 August, more than four lakh Rohingya took shelter in Bangladesh. Do not wait, more than five lakh Rohingyas coming to different times of the past have been living in this country. This large number of refugees are a burden for a small area and a small asset country. So while Bangladesh has given shelter to Rohingya refugees for humanitarian reasons at the moment, they are also looking at the international initiative for their rapid return and rehabilitation. In that case, the rapid settlement of the Rohingya crisis is very important. The world community, including the United Nations, has praised Bangladesh for providing shelter to a large number of Rohingya, but we do not see the kind of steps it needs to take to resolve this crisis.

It is learned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will highlight the Rohingya issue strongly in the upcoming 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. It is being speculated that the General Assembly session will be very hot on this issue. However, we know that the General Council has fewer powers to resolve such a crisis. The key to this power is in the hands of the Security Council. In fact, the final decision on resolving the Rohingya crisis will come from the Security Council. So our call to the permanent and temporary member states of the Security Council, they make such a decision that Myanmar stops the persecution of Rohingya Muslims and is forced to return refugees who take shelter in Bangladesh. In this regard, we expect the legitimate role of the Security Council, especially the permanent member states. We also need to carry out strong diplomatic engagement in this regard.

Please share widely! Rohingya communities are under attack by Burma's army. Please tell U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to use all means to end the violence and repression against the Rohingya.
