It is time for the monthly review of Steemit. We are going to look at how Steemit has been doing last month. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I can tell you that we have some surprising numbers!

How many people visit Steemit.com?

Last month we saw that Steemit seemed to be unaffected by the crypto dip but this month things are quite different. The total visits of has gone down by 18%. This is the first time that I have seen the number of visits to Steemit.com decrease.
More than that, the number of monthly unique visits which was almost 18 million last month has also gone down to 16.9 million (which still isn't bad).

This includes visits from different devices like laptops/PC and smartphones).

Although Steemit was able to withstand the downward crypto trend last month, there is no escaping a decline in visits to the site in February. An 18% decline in total visits is not a lot however considering the massive growth that the site has had for the last couple of months. Though it is something to take keep an eye on.

Comments

As we can see in this graph, the number of visits has decreased but is still more than what is was in december 2017. Let's hope that the trend does not continue and that the growth can pick up again.

Where do they come from?

This statistic shows which countries the visits originated from.

Comments

A lot of red figures in this statistic. All the countries in the top 5 show a decline but the U.S. and Korea show the biggest losses. Korea in particular has an almost 50% decrease in visitors! Could this be because of pending regulations or have our Korean Steemians lost interest in Steemit? It is hard to tell but it is strange to see such a decrease in visits from Korea.

How did they find Steemit?

Comments

We can also a shift in the origins of the visits. Organisch Searches (search engines) has gone down 2% compared with last month and direct visits has gone up quite a bit. This has everything to do with the decline in visits as the direct visits for the most part consists of Steemians visiting the site.

Who is generating the Traffic?

This statistic shows where the referrals are coming from.

Comments

Dtube is still leading the chart of top referring websites but again there is a lot of red. Eos.io takes the biggest hit with a massive 87% drop.

When we look at the top referring categories there is a interesting change at the top. Chats and Forums is now the top category instead of Investing. This is another indication that the interest in cryptocurrency is taking its toll.

What are they searching for?

These are the keywords people used in search engines that lead them to the Steemit website.

Comments

This statistic has some interesting things to show us. First off, Steemit has lost some popularity as a keyword, on the other hand movies are gaining popularity as is Dtube. Although Steemit is the most popular keyword by far, Dtube seems to be gaining some fans out there.

Also this stat answers a very important question. What do we do during a cryptocurrency dip? We watch juegos porno!

Social media interest

This is the traffic originating from the social media sites.

Comments

Nothing much has changed here since last month. Twitter is still ahead of Facebook. Reddit has overtaken Youtube in the chart but nothing shocking as far as the Social media referrals are concerned.

Social Media referrals are still good for 2.7 million visits though....

Steemit has taken a hit. There is the ongoing decline of visits from the U.S. and the massive decline of Korean traffic. But it could be expected, Steemit has a interesting relation with cryptocurrency and the crypto market is not doing so hot at the moment.

It's not all bad new though!

Imgur

Steemit is still #1,665 on the Similarweb ranking and #1,357 among U.S. sites. When it comes to News and Media, Steemit is killing it at #250.

As I mentioned before last month, the increase of movies searches is not a good thing as far as I am concerned. I will follow up with a Dtube Statistics post to get more info on what's going on with Dtube, so stay tuned.

Visits to Steemit have gone down in February but it is too soon to call it a trend, there are a lot of possible causes for the decline. Most likely it is a natural correction caused by the massive growth that Steemit has seen during the last months.

Great insight !

Thanks @vlemon. It's weird to see Steemit's traffic go down. I hope that the number of new accounts is still growing. However this is not a good sign.

Total visits and total number of steemit accounts are 2 different things right? Do you know where we can see the total accounts/users on steemit?

they are indeed two different things. there are steemians that keep track of the number of accounts. However I would be careful with interpreting those numbers. There are quite a lot of people with multiple accounts and bots.

fair enough mate but do you know where we can see the total accounts/users on steemit? Coz quite certain that we dont have 39M users.
