OR, save your upvotes for Other people. all STEEM you make goes half into your SBD (steem based dollars) and have into SP (STEEM Power) which is what you use to upvote others, so if you upvote your own work, you are just giving your steem power back to yourself, which then gets cut in half again into SBD and SP.
