7 state units pass resolutions as chorus grows for Rahul Gandhi as Congress chief

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee was the first state unit which backed Rahul Gandhi to return as party chiefA total of seven state units have now passed similar resolutions seeking Rahul Gandhi at the helm of Congress affairs. State units had passed a similar resolution when Rahul Gandhi was elevated as Congress president in 2017.

On September 18, a resolution was passed in a meeting of 310 Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates (who will vote in the party's presidential election) to make Rahul Gandhi the party's national president.

A similar demand was raised in Gujarat as well by the party's state unit. It was demanded that respected Rahul Gandhi, who is the future of India and the voice of the youth, be made the president of the Indian National Congress. All the present delegates of the state executive approved it with a thunderous applause, the party said in a statement after the meeting.

Tamil Nadu and Bihar Congress Committees too passed a resolution in the respective state general council meetings, taking the number of state units backing Rahul Gandhi to five.On Monday evening, Maharashtra and J&K Congress units too demanded Rahul Gandhi's return in council meetings.According to sources, Himachal Pradesh state unit will also be passing a similar resolution during its September 19 meeting.

Rahul Gandhi has so far held the card close to his chest as far as the Congress President poll is concerned. The only hint the Gandhi scion dropped was in Kanyakumari, while addressing the media, he had said that if he does not file the nomination, then he should be asked why he was against taking the leadership and he would answer.

The nomination for Congress’ presidential election starts from September 24 and by October 2 - if there is a single candidate then - Congress will get its new chief.
